Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed January 25, 1916. Serial No. 74,255.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. FRANK- LIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Red Lodge, in the county of Carbon and State of Montana, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Power Washing-Machines, of which the following is a specification. v

y present invention relates particularly to certain new and useful improvements in power washing machines, the primary object thereof being to provide a small machine of this nature which may be set in a convenient and handy position, for instance, in a kitchen sink, for light washing and at the same time be self operating in order to do away with the constant attention and -manual work necessary at present in machines of this character.

In carrying out these objects, and certain .others which will hereinafter appear, I preferably utilize the construction to be now described with reference to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and wherein Figure l is a side elevation of my improved machine. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken therethrough substantially on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a central vertical section through the machine. Fig. 4 is a -partial horizontal section taken substan-- tially on line 44 of Fig. 3. detail enlarged viewof certain hereinafter described.

To the lower extremity of the shaft E is secured awater wheel consisting of hori zontally disposed superposed and connected disks F and F, the .former of which is provided at .its periphery with outstanding spaced and twisted impact buckets F these buckets as well as the entire water wheel, bein inclosed within a frame G secured to the fiottom D of the casing, ,and provided therearound as shown best in Fig. 2, with a plurality of inclined openings G.

Around the frame G just mentioned, is extended a nozzle tube H, one end of which is closed as for instance by a plug H and the other end of which is extended outwardly through the lower portion. of the casing wall below the casing bottom D and threaded as at II for connection with a suitable water supply through, for instance, a flexible connecting pipe. The nozzle tube H just mentioned, is also provided in its length' with a which is seen at H in Fig. 5, these several openings coinciding with the inclined openings G of the frame ,G so as to introduce tangentially directed water jets within the secured thereto around said 4 plurality of openings one of a water supply, the result betated in a mass causing a thorough constant circulation of the cleaning fiuid therethrough, and further causing the clothes to be rubbed both by the corrugations of the bowl E and against the corrugations of the inner wall C of the casing. In this way, a small, light, yet durable washing machine may be had, susceptible of ready manipulation and convenient transportation as by means of handles I provided upon the casing A, and one which is capable of constant operatlon to thoroughly cleanse light washing without necessitating constant attention on the part of the operator or manual labor in the washing operation.

I claim 1. In a washing machine of the character described, a casing having in its upper portion a rubbing surface, a fluid holding bowl shaped clothes receptacle disposed within said casing below its said rubbing surface and opening upwardly to receive. the clothes introduced within the casing, and means for rotating the said bowl shaped receptacle whereby to move theclothes and fluid up.- wardly along the wall within the casing and against the said rubbing surface. a

In a washing machine of the character described, a casing having in its upper portion an annular rubbing surface, a fluid holding bowl shaped clothes receptacle disposed within said casing with its upper open end contiguous to and below the said rubbing surface to receive the clothes introduced within the casing, and means for rotating the said bowlv shaped receptacle whereby to move the clothes upwardly therefrom and around within the casing and against the said rubbing surface, the said bowl shaped receptacle also having a rubbing surface acting directly upon the clothes carried thereby.
