CASH-COLLECTOR AND AUTOMATIC ATTENDANCE-RECORDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 26, 1916.
Application filed March 14, 1916. Serial No. 84,146.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J ACOB GARRETT KEMP, a citizen of the United States, residing at itillwater, in the county of Payne and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cash-Collectors and Automatic Attendance-ldecorders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved cash collecting Vessel and automatic attendance recorder especially adapted for use in the collection of coins, tags or checks from groups of persons such as Sunday school classes, societies, lodges and the like and for also recording the attendance of such persons, the object of the invention being to provide an improved device of this character which is simple in construction, is strong and durable,
and which greatly facilitates taking the roll or the attendance of members and recording the same, automatically and also facilitates thecollection of the coins, tags or checks paid or deposited by such persons as ofi'erings or dues.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is an elevation of a cash collecting register and attendance recorder constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. i is a transverse sectional view of the same.
In the form of the invention here shown the cash collecting vessel 1 is an oblong rectangular box which in practice may be made of sheet metal, wood, paper, or any other suitable material.
The walls 2 which are opposite each other are joined at the ends as at 3 and the box is open at the sides as at t and is provided with slides 5 for covering said openings, these slides being guided in guide flanges 6 with which the walls 2 are provided, bearings 7 being provided at suitable spaces in open sides of the box, under said slides. The box is also here shown as provided with a longitudinal partition wall 8 Which is centrally arranged and is also provided with transverse partition walls 9 which divide the box into two groups of coin receiving compartments 10. One wall 2 is provided with coin slots 11 of suitable size and of suitable number, the said slots leading to one group of the compartments, the other wall having similar slots which lead to the other group of compartments. Enough slots are provided for each compartment to equal the number of meeting days of the school class or lodge or society, in any calendar month, five of compartment.
A recording card holding frame 12, made of wire or the like, is provided on each wall 2 of the box, each holding frame being hinged at one end of the box as at 13 and the box being provided at the opposite end with suitable spring catches 14 to secure the holding frame in closed position. Stops 15 are also provided at opposite sides of each wall 2.
For use in connection with the box I provide recording cards 16 each of which is provided with spaced transverse weakening lines 17 which divide the card into individual sections 18 one for each member .of
'the class, society, or lodge and inscribed with his name and also if desired with his address as at 19. At the head of each card are sections 20, 21. The section 20 being inscribed to designate the society, lodge, or class, the number of members enrolled, and the average attendance for a given month, and the section 21 being inscribed to indicate the total cash collection for any given month and also with the name of the month, and with members corresponding with the slots, and indicating the days of meeting of such class, society or lodge. Each card also has slots 22 corresponding and to register with the slots 11 and on the rear side of each card is a radially puncturable fabric 23 such as tissue paper or the like, which may be pasted or otherwise secured thereto and which serves to cover the slots 11, the slots 22 indicating the exact location of the slots 11. One of these cards may be used on each Wall 2 of the box, the said cards being for the respective groups of coin receiving compartments 10, as will be understood.
The operation of my invention is as follows: In taking up the collection, the box is handed to each member of the class, society, or lodge, in succession, and eachmember inserts a coin, tag or check, corresponding with his dues or as his voluntary contribution', in the compartment corresponding with his section of the card and through the these slots being here shown for each slot corresponding With the date of themeeting. The coin, tag or check cannot beipassed through the slot 11 Without first tearing the fabric 23 and hence the existence of such a torn slot indicates the presence of the individual at that meeting as Well as indicating that he made a contribution or paid a due. Should no payment be made by an individual present at a meeting, he will, in order to indicate his attendance, tear through the fabric 23 at the appropriate slot as by means of a pencil point, or other suitable object. The payments made by each individual are retained in the compartment 10 designated by the section 18 of the card for that individual and hence the amount paid or contributed by each individual during the month may be ascertained by counting the coins in said compartment 10. The compartments may be opened by an authorized person, secretary, treasurer or the like, by first removing the slide 5 Which closes the compartments.
Having thus described my invention What I claim is: i
A cash collecting vessel having a series of cash receiving compartments and provided with oppositely arranged Walls, each wall having a series of coin slots communicating with one of the compartments and also having an unslotted portion at one side of another compartment, the said coin slots of the respective Walls being reversely arranged on said opposite sides of the vessel and a readily puncturable recording mem 9 her on each of said walls, said recording member having identifying portions on the unslotted portion of the Wall and also having a portion to extend across and close the slots of said Wall.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of tWo Witnesses.
