incassa.- Y
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Lisoroim` 1 citizen of the United States, and resident `of the city of Newark, county of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoes, of which the following is a specification.
One of the main objects of this-invention is to provide a shoe adapted to be worn over` a dress slipper to thereby protect the slipper and the stocking of the wearer'. Y
The ordinary and usual dress slipper is provided with a very high and small heel of such shape as to provide a very unstable support for the wearer and notat all adapted for street use.` These so-called high-heel slippers render walking in the street and entering and leaving carriages and automobiles very awkward, if not dangerous.
It is another object of this invention to provide a protecting shoe having a hollow rigid heel to receive the slipper,` and which will afford a substantial and stable support for the wearer. This shoe not only protects the somewhat delicate heel of a dress slipper, but gives to the wearer abroad and substantial support. Y
Another object of this invention is to so cushion the interior of the shoe as to form a. yielding support for the rear portion of the slipper, the said cushion serving as a means to protect the delicate covering of the slipper and prevent it being rubbed or scratched. This cushion also yields soinel' what to the weight of the wearer so that being broken away and shown in longitudi-v nal sectional view; Fig. 3 a plan view of the shoe; and Fig. 4 a perspective view of the metallic heel socket.
Referring to the various parts by numer` als, l designates the body of the shoe which is open down its front, and is provided with `the two over-lapping flaps 2. These overlapping flaps are provided with any suitable A. BAUM, a

form of closure devices, that shown` in the drawings being straps 3 and buckles fi. The
shoe is provided with 4an ordinary rigid sole 5 of ysuitable material and with a broad substantial and rigid heel 6. This heel` is hollow and is fitted with a metallic socket 7, said socket fitting accurately and closely within the hollow heel 6. Socket 7 is formed with laterally horizontally extending fianges 8 at its upper end, said {ianges being built into the shoe and covered by the material thereof in such manner that they are not visible and cannot contact with the slipper.
The interior of the shoe is fitted with comparatively deep and soft cushions 9 and 10. The cushion 9 is at the back of the shoe around the heel part, conforming substantially to the shape ofthe counter. This cushion receives the rear portion ofthe slip per and forms a yielding support or back ing therefor. The cushion 10 ts under and around the arch of the slipper and forms a yielding support foi that portion of the foot. These cushions yield sufficiently to permit the slipper heel to fit iirnily on the bottom of the socket 7 and at the saine time prevent any rubbing or friction of the shoe. By means of these cushions, heels of varying heights may be brought to rest on the bottoni of the socket 7 while at the saine time the rear portion of the body of the slipper is snugly set in the cushion and all danger of injury due to rubbing of the slipper at the heel-portion thereof is avoided.
lt is, of course, intended that the interior of the shoe shall be lined with a fabric corresponding somewhat with the character of the slipper, or of such character that there shall be no danger of the slipper fabric being scratched or injured.
It is manifest that the rigid heel may be of any desired shape and of any suitable dimensions, the essential feature being that it shall be rigid, hollow and sufficiently broad to afford the wearer a rm footing and substantial support. It is also manifest that it will forni a rigid protecting covering for the slipper heel.
What T claim is:
l. An over-shoe comprising a body por tion open down the front, closure flaps therefor, a rigid sole, a rigid hollow heel adapted to receive a slipper heel, and elastic cushion material in the shoe at the heel portion thereof.
2. A. shoe comprising a body part open down the front and provided with closure flaps, a rigid sole, a,` hollow rigid heel, adapted to receive a slipper heel; a metal Socket in said heel, laterally extending.' flanges on the upper end of said socket7 and means forfsecurngA said flanges inthe shoe structure.
3. A shoe comprising nbody part, al rigidsole, erigid hollouT heel adapted to receive a slipper' heel, a cushion :it the back' oitl the shoe and servingto'support the rear portion4 oli" a slipper, and si. cushionL adapted to support the slipper under tliearch thereof.
. 4i. A slioecoinprising irbodypairt; a rigid sole7 a hollow rigid metal heel socket adapted to receive a slipper heel, a rigid casing inclosing seid metal socket, means for securing the metal socket to the shoe, and elastic cushion material in the shoe at the heel portion thereof alcove the heel socket.
5. Ashoe comprising a body partn au rigid sole, a hollow rigid metal heel socket adapted toreceivea slipper' heel, laterally extending flanges :it the upper end of said metal heel socket, and" means for securing; seid l-nges in the shoe structure.
