The present invention relates to counter liners and heel cushions for shoes, slippers, and similar articles of footwear, and aims to provide a combined counter liner and heel f cushion of novel construction.

The counter liner, as shown, is adapted to be removably fitted in a shoe, slipper, or similar article of footwear, as disclosed in my application Serial No. 127,100, filed August 4,
1926 (now Patent No. 1,711,851, granted May 7, 1929, but it is to be understood that the improvements may be embodied in either permanent or removable counter liners, embodying the bottom 7 and upturned portion 8.
In carrying out the invention, a piece 9 of leather or other flexible material, is disposed below the liner bottom 7, and is stitched thereto, as at 10, to form a pocket open at the rear end, the stitching being interrupted at the heel or rear end of the liner, to provide the mouth 11 of the pocket, which is of narrower width than the pocket.
