This invention 'relates to an automobile horn or alarm signal :of the vibrating or percussig type; and one object of the same. is to'provide ahorn of this character embodying a simpliiied construction which is exceptionally cheap in the cost of manufacture, yet eective `in its operation to produce a strong alarm sound.

Secured to the lower end of the spring is an insulating connector 26having a spring arm .27 fixed to its rear end and extending upwardly and provided with a terminal armature 28, which in the present instance is in the form ofa metal plate bent over and secured to the upper end of the spring in `line with the pole 29 of the magnet 211. The armature 28 carries a. contact 30 which normally engages the contact 22 or the point of the screw 21. The one terminal of the windingof the electro-magnet is connected `by a wire 31 to the binding post 16 and the other or opposite terminal of said winding is connected by a wire 32 to the spring arm 27.
lt will be observed that the spring 23 carries the electro-magnet 24v, spring arm. 27 and armature 28 in suspended relation within` the casing 5, and'the several parts of this actuating mechanism can be simultaneously installed or placed. in operative position within the casing 4at a very small cost and without requiring any accurate adjustment, it being proposed to so primarily proportion and arrange the parts that a quickoperative assemblage may be obtainedby simply securing the spring 23 to the upper portion of the casing, as hereinbefore explained, when' the impacting button or disk 25 and armature 28 with the contact 30 will be in proper position relatively .to the projection 11 and the contact 22. When the circuit including the wires 18 and 19 is closed, the said circuit being from' -the binding post 16 lby wire 31 through the electro-magnet r241, over vwire 32 to the spring 27, from spring 27 by way of the contact 30 to the screw'21, and from the screw' 21 through the rear side or back 15 of the casing 5to the binding post 17 and out through the wirej'l). When the circuit is thus closed .the electro-magnet 24 becomes energized and attracts the armature 28, and

As soon as the armature 28 is drawn toward the 4llijole of the electro-magnet the engagement etwen the contacts 22 and 30 is broken and a release is effected by reason of the broken circuit and the parts returned to their normal position as shown by Fig. 1,
and immediately the circuit is again made 'and an impact between the button or disk 25 manufacture and may be produced and placed upon the market at a duced price.
What is claimed is:V 1. In an automobile horn of the class specified, the combination of a casing,` a resonator'secured thereto, a diaphragm between the casing and resonator provided: with materially re a rear proj eetion at the center thereof, a mainsuspending and carr ing spring secured to the upper portionv o the casing within the latter and having an electro-magnet attached to the rear side thereof and an impacting Ydisk at the front side of the spring in line ywith the projection of the diaphragm, an insulating connector secured to and projecting from the free end of the said main spring, an upwardly extending spring arm secured 'to the insulating connector and spaced from the said main spring and providedwith an armature at its upper free end in operative adjacency to the pole of the magnet, the armaturealso carrying a contact projection,

In an automobile horn of the class specified, a casing, a resonator, a diaphragm held between the casing and resonator and having a projection, a main carrying spring depending into the casing and having an impacting disk to engage the projection on the diaphragmand also provided with an electro-magnet, and a yieldingly supported armature' in rear of themagnet and connected to the free end ofthe main spring and carrying a contact to form part of the circuit breaker, the spring with the electromagnet and armature all regularly vibratlng asa unit within the casing, the armature being insulated from the said main spring, a circuit-breaking contact carried by the cas ing Iand normally engaging the contact of the armature, and electrical connections for the electro-magnet and armature.
