GUN WITH SLIDING BARREL.
APPLICATION FILED OCT. I6. 1913.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.

CORPORATION 0F GERMANY.
GUN WITH SLIDING BARREL.
Application filed October 16, 1913.
To all ywhom t may concern Be it known that I, KARL VLLER, engineer, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at 12 Scharnhorststrasse, Dusseldorf, Germani, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Guns with Sliding Barrels; and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact Adescription of the invention, such as will endirectly over the trunnions, so that the weight of the barrel is transmitted by the projections directly to the bearings through the trunnions, and the cradle or its carrier is completely relieved of the weight when the gun is in the position of rest.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation and Fig. 2 is a cross section.
a is the gun carriage in which the cradle carrier is journa-led by the trunnions 0. The cradle CZ carries the guides c for the sliding barrel f. The carrier has projections g in the same vertical plane with the trunnions c, over which claws 7L, forming part of the barrel, are designed to engage when the barrel is in its position of rest. In this latter position the weight of the barrel is partially transferred from the cradle to the carriage. This transposition of the weight from the cradle to the projections is rendered effective because the disr tance between the bearing surfaces of the Specification of Letters Patent.

claws it and the bearing surfaces of the barrel on the guides e is somewhat less than the distance between the bearing surfaces of the projections g and the bearing surfaces of the guides e. In other words, when the gun is at rest with the claws engaging the pro jections g the weight is taken off of the guides e to the extent of a portion of the play between the gun and the cradle. This is shown in exaggeration in Fig. 2, the dotted line representing the distance between the bearing surfaces of the claws z and the surface of the gun where it bears on the guide e, and the line lo denoting the distance between the bearing surfaces of g and e. The projections g will not impede movement of the gun in recoiling and returning to normal position, the play between the gun and the guides e being' suiiicient to negative undue friction.
I claim as my invention l. A gun having a sliding barrel, a cradle therefor, a pivoted member for said cradle, Said barrel having a sliding movement relatively to said cradle and pivoted member, and bearings for the barrel, independent of said cradle, located adjacent to and in the same vertical plane with the pivots of said member, said bearing being designed to partially support said barrel when the latter is at rest.
2. A gun having a sliding barrel, a cradle therefor, a carrier for the cradle having trunnions, bearings for said trunnions, said carrier having projections adjacent to said trunnions, and claws extending laterally from the barrel for engaging said projections when the barrel is at rest.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
