- BOILER-STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. is, rare.
Applieaticn filed August 17, 191.6. Serial No. 115,395.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that IjHEnnnnr L. Brown, a citizen of the United States of America, and
a resident of Richmond, county of. Henrico, State of V1rginia, have invented certain new and useful, Improvements in Boiler- Stands, of which the following is a full and clearspecification, V
The object of this invention a simple device which may be readily adjusted for different sized boilers; and the invention consists of certain novel features of vconstruction hereinafter described and claimed. 7
In the drawingsFigure 1 is a plan view and Fig.2 is a side elevation of my improved stand; Fig. 3 is a bottom view partly broken away; and Fig. at is a vertical sectional View on the line H of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing annexed, it will be observed that I employ three supporting members identical in construction, each consisting of a leg (4, an upright b and an inwardly-extending arm 0 connected to the aforesaid members at their point of juncture. I provide means for connecting the three in wardly-extending arms 0 so as to thereby produce a tripod structure whose upper ends are shaped to receive and support the lower end of the boiler.
To connect the inwardly-extending arms 0 I provide a plate (I, the connection between this plate and the arms being by means of vertical pivot bolts e, these three bolts being arranged at equidistant points around the center of the plate cl. Withthis connection between the supporting members and the connecting plate cl, it will be observed that the supporting members may, by being swung horizontally on their pivots, have their upright supports I) brought closer to or farther from the center of the supporting plate, as shown in dotted lines in 1, to accommodate boilers of different diameters.
To look the supporting members in their adjusted positions with respect to each other and the supporting plate, I provide a series of notches f formed in a depending flange on the outer edge of the plate (Z, each of the arms a being provided on its upper surface with a radial rib 9 adapted to engage any one of the series of notches. To insure the symmetrical adjustment of the supporting members, I provide suitable corresponding marks or indications g on the upper face of the connecting plate, these marks or indicais to provide tions being preferably designated by numerals which indicate the capacity of the boiler each adjustment of the supporting members is adapted to accommodate.
Each of the pivots c consists preferably of a stove bolt extending down through corresponding holes in the plate (Z and the arms 0 and provided with a nuton its depending end, the nutbeing adapted to bind against the under side of the arm. To prevent the nut turning, the under side of the arm is provided with a groove 72,. To strengthen the inner ends of the arms 0 and also to house the nuts and bolts, each of the inner ends of the arms 0 is formed into a semi-cylindrical cup 2' whose vertical convex wall faces outwardly, so that when the three supporting members are adjusted and locked the nuts and bolts will be entirely protected and obscured from view.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In a device of the class set forth, a plurality of supporting members each having an inwardly-extending arm, a connecting plate, and means pivotally connecting the same to said inwardly-extending arms, said means embodying a series of vertical pivots arranged around the center of the plate and at equidistant points from each other and said center, means being provided whereby the supporting members are fastened in their adjusted positions.
2. In a device of the class set forth, the combination of a plurality of supporting members, each being provided with an inwardly-extending arm at a point between its ends, a connecting plate, vertical pivots connecting said plate to said inwardly-extending arms, said pivots being located at points away from the center of said plate, for the purpose set forth, and means for locking the supporting members with respect to each other and said plate.
3. In a device of the class set forth, the combination of a plurality of supporting members, each being provided with an inwardly-extending arm at a point between its ends, a connecting plate, vertical pivots connecting said plate to said inwardly-extending arms, said pivots being located at points away from the center of said plate, for the purpose set forth, and means for locking the supporting members with respect to each other and said plate, said locking means consisting of a series of notches and an interlocking rib carried by the conneoting plate and said arms respectively.
4C. In a device of the class set forth, a plurality of supporting members each having an inwardly-extending arm, a connecting plate, pivot bolts extending through said connecting plate and said inwardly-extending arms, nuts on the lower ends of said bolts, said nutsbeing prevented from turning with respect to the arms by means of grooves in the under sides of the arms, and means for locking the arms in their adjusted positions with respect to the plate.
5. In a device of the class set forth, a plu rality of supporting members each having positions with respect to the plate, each of an inwardly-extending 7 arm, a connecting plate, vertical pivot bolts extending through said connecting plate and said inwardly-extending arms, nuts on the lower ends ofsaid bolts, said nuts beingprevented from turning with respect to the arms by means of grooves in the under sides of the arms, and means for locking the arms in their adjusted said arms being provided with a'semi-cylindrical cup-like housing at its inner end, for the purpose set forth. 7
In testimony whereof I hereuntoafiiii my V signature. i V 7 HERBERT L. BROWN;
