of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pulley-Blocks; and I dodeclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to-make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to theletters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a This invention relates to improvements in logging apparatus or appliances, more especially pulleys and blocks for hauling logs or otherh'eavy objects. 1 i
The. invention hasfor its object to provide for facilitating the handling or hauling of logs or other heavy objects.
A further object is to expedite the manipulating or connecting ofthe hauling cable or line to the block or yoke of the pulley.
A still further object is to guard against the line or cable becoming choked or wedged betweenthepulley or sheave and its carrying yoke or block.
A still further object is tofac'ilitate the removal of the line or cable and changing the direction of the passing ofthe line or cable through the pulley carrying block or yoke. a
A still further object is to relatively re-' duce the wear or abrasion upon the line or cable from the pulley block or yoke.
A still further object is to readily centralize the winding of the line or cable upon the pulley. V
A still further object isto carry out the aforesaid ends in a simple, inexpensive, expeditious and effective manner.
The invention therefore consists of certain instrumentalities and features of construction substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and defined by the appended claim.

In carrying out my invention, I suitably mount a pulley or sheave 1 within a yoke or block 2, said pulley or sheave being preferably of the structural outline or formation as disclosed, it being provided peripherally with a central annular groove or concavity 3 and with right hand and left hand similar grooves a and 5, respectively, upon opposite sides of said central groove for the suitable reception or passing of the logging or hauling line or cable (not shown) in engagement or contactwith said pulley or sheave as is well understood. By reason of the arrangement of the line or cable receiving or engaging grooves of the pulley or sheave, as shown and described, it will be noted that the winding of the cable or line is centralized thereon for its continuous effective action, as is apparent.
The inner terminals of the spiral grooves vanish into, or merge withtlie central annular groove out of alinement, and distantly separated points, whereby to guard against thepulley-cable casually leaving or escaping from said central groove after having been led thereinto by said spiral grooves as would otherwise beivery liable to be the case, said terminals each having its higher or greater outwardly extended portion upstanding opposite the vanishing portion of the otherterminal. V i The spiral right-hand and left-hand grooves are flanged or guarded by flanges axially, said flanges being rounded or convex upon their inner surfaces or faces, the flanges, pri1na rily, providing against the cable casually leaving the pulley and being deflected laterally over the threads or walls of the spiral grooves. The rounding of the surfaces or faces of the flanges tends to throw the hauling line back into the spiral grooves in event of such displacement of the cable from the pulley.
The yoke member or block 2, preferably of wrought iron, includes lateral sectional members 6 and 7, respectively, the lower or main sections thereof being adapted to form bearings for the pulley or sheave shaft or axle 10, the latter being secured as usual in position therein as shown. These main or lower yoke sections are suitably connected or held together by means of a suitably sleeved headed and nut-equipped bolt 11 passed through downward extensions of the member 2, the hauling line or cable passing from that end of the yoke or block to its work. These lateral lower yoke sections are armed or reinforced upon their inner surfaces with plate-like members 12 preferably riveted to the yoke or block, as at 13, and conforming at theirlower edges to the adjacent peripheral or rounded flanges 14 of the pulley, said reinforcing members 12 also serving to guard the hauling ("line or' cable as against becoming wedged, choked or crowded between the ends of the pulley or sheave and the yoke or block, as is apparent from an examination of Figs. 1 and 2. The upper or minor block section includes a bail-like member 2*" having its inner or lower ends suitably bolted to i the lower main yoke section as at 15, said ends being received within slotted or bifurcated upper boss-like ends of terminals or the main or lower yoke sections as clearly seen in the two figures, said bail-like member therefore being readily detachable or removable whereby the hauling rope, line or cable may be readily reversed in its application to or connection with the pulley or sheave simply by removing the bail-like member, and whereby the necessity is avoided of pulling the line, rope or cable its whole length through the yoke or block whenever it may be desired to reverse the position of the block this being permissible simply by displacing, as above indicated, the removable baillike member.
