CHARLES EDMUND PARSONS, OF EAST HAM, ENGLAND.
LOWERING TACKLE FALL-BLOCK FOR USE IN I-IAULAGl-E OF SHIPS LIFE BOATS AND FOR OTHER LIKE PURPOSES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 24k, 1916.
Application filed February 5, 1915. Serial No. 6,361.
I '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, GI-IARLEs EDMUND PARSONS, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 87 Central Park road, East Ham, in the county of Essex, England, have invented an Improved Lowering Tackle Fall-Block for Use in Haulage of Ships Life Boats and for other like Purposes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and uncantable block which cannot get out of position in the course of overhauling the tackle falls to any length when hauling ships life boats and the'like. This block is constructed with an iron swivel eye fitted to a binder having an internal solid block and metal collar; a perforated metal block and wood cheeks riveted together; a spindle with a leather cap carrying two sheaves and a central vertical wood partition. If preferable the said I block is provided with one or more sheaves revolving on spindles, the aforesaid block having the usual swivel eye. This block is intended to suit all classes of work where rope or wire tackle falls are used in factories, ships or other works, where one, two, three or four sheave blocks are required.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1, is a vertical section of Fig. 2; Fig. 2 is an elevation of the tackle fall block, and Fig. 3, is a plan of the top of the block.
1 construct my tackle fall block with an iron swivel eye a fitted to an iron binder 6,- this said binder is provided with an internal solid malleable iron block 0; outside the binder b I fix a metal collar 0 and wood cheeks d, the whole being fixed together by long rivets 6. At the top of the tackle fall block I fix to the wood cheeks (Z a perforated metal block f and fix the same together by means of long rivets g. The sheaves it revolve in their respective positions on the center spindle z, the said spindle 2' having a square end j which opposite end 7' is covered with a leather cap 70 secured by tacks to the wood check for securing the spindle in its position as shown in Fig. 1. The square end of the spindle 2' fits in a square hole cut in one of the cheeks (Z of the pulley block for retaining the said spindle i in position. In the center of the block as shown in Fig. 1, I fix a vertical wood partition Z between the two sheaves h.
m is the haulage rope or wire.
I claim:
A lowering tackle fall block comprising a spindle, wood cheek pieces on the ends of said spindle, pulleys mounted on said spindle, a partition between the pulleys, a U-shaped binder provided with a swivel eye suspended from the spindle between the pulleys and the cheek pieces, a block mounted in the bend of the U-shaped member recessed to receive one end of the partition, a second block having cable guiding apertures and recessed to receive the other end of the partition and an end of each of the cheek pieces, securing bolts passing through the blocks, partition and cheek pieces, and a collar surrounding the binder and the firstmentioned block. v
7 CHARLES EDMUND PARSONS.
