JESSE D. PADGIT'I, 01? DALLAS, TEXAS.
COLLAR.
Specification of Letters Patent. 7
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jnssn D. PADGITT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dallas, in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Collar, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is a horse collar, and the invention aims to provide novel means whereby the fore-Wale of the collar will be caused to grip the hames.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings, Figure 1 shows in side elevation, a hame collar constructed in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a fragmental cross-section showing one side of the hame collar delineated in Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a sectional detail illustrating the manner in which thewale is made to grip the hames. Fig. 4 is a sectional detail showing a slight modification in the invention.
In the drawings there is shown a collar comprising a body 1. and a bendable angular fore-Wale 2. The body 1 comprises walls 3 and 4 which may be united by a seam 5. Disposed within the body 1 is a packing 11 which may be made of any material. The wall 3 of the body 1 is prolonged to form the inner wall 7 of the fore-Wale 2, and the wall 4 of the body is prolonged to form the outer wall 6 of the fore-wale 2. Disposed between the walls 6 and 7 of the fore-Wale 2 is an angular reinforcement 8 which may be made out of relatively stiff leather or any other material. The walls 7 and 6 of the V fore-Wale 2 are united with the reinforcement 8 by means of stitchings 9; The inner wall 7 is shorter than the outer wall 6, measured transversely of the collar, and, as shown at 10, a portion of the inner wall 7 Copies of this patent may be obtained for the body portion of the collar.
bridges the inner angle 14 of the fore-Wale.
hames 11 are placed in the forewales to swing inwardly and grip the hames as shown in Fig. 3.
Patented Dec. 19, 1916.
Application filed July 27, 1916. Serial No. 111,666. r
The fore-Wale need not be formed integrally with the body, as above described.
In Fig. 4 of the drawings, parts heretofore described have been designated by the numerals previously used, with the suffi 6 a 77 As indicated at 50, the fore-wal'e, which is detachable, has been shown connected with Fig. 4 merely illustrates one of the many ways whereby the fore-Wale may be detachably united with the body of the collar, and a collar-maker will be entirely competent to connect the fore-Wale with the body of the collar in any way which is considered expedient or desirable, either according to the showing of Fig. 4 or'otherwise.
Having thus described the invention, what bridging the inner, angle of the fore-Wale,
the strip being constructed and arranged to be depressed intothe angle of the fore-wale by a hame, to bend the fore-Wale into hamegrippin position. 4
2'. A endable angular horse-collar forewale including inner and outer walls and a reinforcement between the walls, the reinforcement forming an inner angle in the wale, and the inner wall being connected with the reinforcement at transversely remote points and bridging the inner angle, the inner wall being constructed and arranged to be depressed into the inner angle of the fore-Wale by a hame to bend the forewale into heme-gripping position.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature.
JESSE D. PADGITT.
