PROCESS or CONSTRUCTING REINFORCED-CONCRETE .B-KReEs, s iirs'on vnssnLs. 7
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SEWARI) D. HEN- DRICKS, a citizen of-t'he United States, resid ing at Buffalo, Erie county, State of New York, have lnvented certain new and useful Improvements in the Process of v Constructing Reinforced Concrete Barges,
Ships, or Vessels, of'which thefollowing is a specification.
My invention relates to barges, ships or vessels of any shape or size made from reinforced-concrete or other material formed by concretion.
It consists of a new and useful method or process of constructing barges, ships or vesselsof this character.
In the accompanying drawing, whichis illustrative and in no way limitative, Figure 1 is a side view-of a reinforced-concrete frame which is cast as a-nionolith; Fig. '2 is a side view of a reinforced-concrete side of a barge which side is cast as a monolith "with the outside frama- Figs. 3 and L4 show some of the elements of the barge in spacedrelation before casting the bottom and ends.- Fig. 5 shows the metal reinforcements 6 .pro-
jecting from the bottom surfaces .of the frames and sides .to be suitably connected to the reinforcements of the bottom. Metal reinforcin in the frames and sides projects vfronithe r bottom surface (6 in Fig. 5) and suitably connects and supports the reinforcing metal of the. reinforced concrete bottom to the frames and sides and other precast members of the barge.
The method is to cast the frames, trusses, sides, slides with frames or trusses together, keelsons, girders, beams, bulkheads, partitions or other members of any desired shape or size of reinforced-concrete as a monolith;
after each monolith of concrete has set properly, to erect and suitably support them in their proper positions as is shownin Figs. 3 and 4. The bottom and ends are now cast as a monolith of reinforced-concrete.
Specification ofLetters Patent.
1 bulkheads,
Having thus described my invention, I chum andxlesire to secure by Letters Patent,
1. The method of constructing barges,
- ships or vessels of any shape or size of reinforced-concrete or other mass formed by concretion, which consists in casting frames, trusses,-sides,- sides with frames or trusses together, ,keelsons, girders,- beams, bulkheads, partitions or other members of any desired shape or size, of reinforced-concrete or other concretive material, as monoliths;
of'reinforced-concrete or other mass formed by concretion, which consists of casting frames, trusses, sides, sides with frames or trusses together, keelsons, girders, beams,
any desired shape or size of reinforced-concrete or other concretious material as monoliths, having metal embedded and projecting from the surface of the ,p recast frames, trusses, sides, sideswi'th frames or trusses together, 'keelsons, girders, beams,- bulkheads, partitions or other members, which projecting metal is suitably fastened to and supports the metal reinforcing of the bottom and ends; erecting and suitably supporting in their proper position these frames, trusses, sides, sides with frames or trusses together, keelsons, girders, beams, bulkheads, partitions or other precast members after they have suitably set and cured; casting the bottom and ends as a monolith or in suitable sections. 1 SEWARD D.
