Description

CdMBlNED FATLININGAND BANDEAU.
APPLICATION FILED 1ULY19| I915.
Patented Dec. 19, 1916.
iZZUWW/ an 4 s COMBINED, HAT-LI'NING'AND'BANDEAU. I
To all whom-it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEON CoimN, acitizen of the United States,"and resident of St.,Louis, Missouri, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Combined Hat-Isi'hings and Bandeaux, of which the follow ingis 'a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof. I
My invention relates to improvements incombined hat linings and bandeaux, wherein a single piece of material is employed to form the body portion of'the device and is folded and stitched to provide on either side of its bodyfa easing, the one on the outside of the body provided forthe reception of aiielement coextensive with the length of the casing and carrying at intervals pointedv projections serving as means for securing the device in a hat crown,- and the other casing provided for the reception of an elastic; cord, which is adjustable as to length to serve-f as a means for' conforming the hat crown to the wearers as well as a means for retaining the hat'in position on the head.
The object ofmy invention is to construct a device which will serve-both as a hat lining and as'a bandeau and which may be socured; inthe'hat crown without the employment of extraneoussecuring meansor stitching and which may be adjusted tofit differentsized crowns andheads.
To-t-he'above purposes, my invention consists in certain novel arrangements and combination of parts hereinafter fully described, pointed out in my claims and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a simple. sectional elevation showing a hat having'thei device of my invention therein; Fig. 2 is an inverted plan,
partly in section, or' a hat lining and band'eau constructed according toniy invention; Fig.3 is an enlarged fragmental detail sectional elevation of. the lining and bandeau removed from the hat. and taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a fragmental elevation of the strip of spring mate-rial and a pointed projection carried thereby.
Referring by numerals to the accompauyhat, which may be of any material and configuration and of itself forms no part of my inve tion.
The numeral 6 designates the lining for the hat crown, which is formed from a single angles to the axis of the crown, forn'nng an elastic and fiexlhle support f0! 111g drawings: 5 designates the crown of at r at one margin thereof,
Specification of Letters Patent; Patc ted 19; 1916, i A lication filed July 19,1915. SeriaI No. 40,772, Y I i piece of-cloth, and has secured wits-on margin by stitching a, disk-shapcdtop 7,
preferablypaper, and has at 1tsmarg1n,op i
posite the top-7, a casing 8, and opposite the casing Sa casing 9, whose necks are oined by a single row of stitches 10,,asclearly shown in Fig. 3. v
Within the casmg9,'wh1ch in use stands preferably sleeves 12, from a pomtedpprojcction, or spur, 13. This strip is preferably of greater length than. the casing so thatits one end may be inserted into the-opposite 'end of the casing Inthe casing 8 there is insertcd'anelastic cord 14, of greater length than the. casing,-
-$()'t hlt it nds may be accessible for ad gusting and tying. I
, In applying this device the spring strip is adjusted to a size somewhatsmaller than-the:
hat crown, and the lining is theninserted into the crown and the spring strip ,freed whereupon it will spring to ,nersurface ofithe crown and its pointed pro- 'jection's or spurs be extended into or through engage the inthe crown, thus securing the-lining, without thenecessity of stitching,
as s common, or-
anyother extraneous securing means. The.
elasticcord'is then drawn to a dimension approximating'the size of the wearers head and its cndstied, causing the-casing, 8-to stand approximatelyin a. position at'right the hat upon the wearefisheadr Having thusdcscri bed myinvention, what I claim asnew therein. andlldesi res to secure by Letterslatent 'ot the: United Statsi-there- 1. AI combined hat lininga and-bandcau: comprisi n g a strip of 'springzmater al; separa te (IOVICGS; h'a zving po nted 'pro ections se-' eured'to said strip, a pointed:projeetionon;
each sleeve, and a fabric having-an. elastic therein and secured tosaid strip. i
.3. In a device oftheclajss described, a single piece of fabric constituting a= lining fora hat crown, and having integral casings thereby a spring metal strip iro 10 tic element being located in the margin of the fahric opposite to the margin secured to the strip, and spaced apart therefrom,
In testimony whereof, I have signed iny name to this specification, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
