i 0 all 10 hom it may concern Be it known that 1, ROBERT T. EVERETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Concrete Smoke-Jacks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to concrete smoke jacks and has for its salient objects, to provide a smoke jack of concrete that is reinforced; to provide a jack that can be built up in sections at the factory and shipped to the point where the jack is to be erected for service and there assembled; to provide a jack that is composed of three principal parts, each of these parts being built up in sections and adapted to be secured together; to provide a jack that is practically indestructible and one that will not be subject to the disadvantages inherent in metal or other jacks; to provide a jack of an artistic appearance, and in general, to provide a simple and improved device of the character re ferred to.
This invention will be more readily understood from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a jack, partly in section; Fig. 2 is a side elevation, partly in section; Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is an enlarged view of the upper left hand corner of Fig. 2; Fig. 5 is a section on line 55 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 6 is a sectional detail of post 19.
In the improved embodiment of my invention shown in the drawings, 11 designates the hood, 12 the chimney part and 13 the cap. The hood part 11 is composed of a plurality of sections, secured by means of screws and anchors as shown at 1 1. The hood part 11 has at the top thereof a headpiece 15'. This head-piece 15 has a slot 16 running entirely around the device. This head-piece is also provided on its four sides with openings 17 These openings 17 communicate with the outside atmosphere. The head-piece 15 rests upon the cribbing on roof beams 18. These openings 17 which communicate with the outside atmosphere are for the purpose of permitting smoke or gases to escape from the upper part of the room to the outside atmosphere. Secured in the chimney part 12 near the top thereof are four posts 19. These posts are secured in small pockets in the chimney part 12 by means of grout and are then anchored by small pins 20. The upper ends of these posts 19 are similarly secured in small pockets 22 in the cap 13. Running lengthwise through these posts 19 are reinforcing rods 21, as shown in Fig. 6.
When the hood part 11 has been assembled and placed in position on the cribbing the chimney part 12 is then assembled and placed in the slot 16 and cement or grouting is poured in the slight opening left after these two parts are placed together. The head piece 15 is integral with the hood 11 and is provided with reinforcing rods 23. These rods are secured to cross rods 24 in the side parts of the hood 11. The various side parts are provided with the wire mesh 25 to which the concrete is secured in making the various side pieces. As shown in Fig. 3, the sections of the chimney part 12 are secured by anchors 26.
By an inspection of the drawings, it will be observed that the several parts may be readily assembled, packed and shipped to the place at which they are to be erected and there put into position and joined together and be ready for service with very little time and trouble.
It will be obvious that the details of construction may be modified without departing from the invention, especially as set forth in the broader of the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a concrete smoke jack, a hood part and a chimney part each comprising a plurality of wall sections of reinforced concrete capable of being assembled, and a channel in the top of said hood part whereby said parts may be secured together.
2. In a concrete smoke j ack, hood and chimney parts each comprising a plurality of reinforced concrete wall sections adapted to be secured together along their lateral edges. and a head piece formed at the top of said hood part having a projecting ledge for supporting the jack. 1
3. In a concrete smoke jack, hood and chimney parts of reinforced concrete, an integral head piece formed at the upper end of said hood part serving as the sole support for the jack.
l. In a concrete smoke jack, hood and chimney parts, a head piece on said hood part, a channel formed in said head piece, and a ledge on said head piece for supporting a jack, said channel adapted to receive the chimney part for securing said hood and chimney parts together.
In .a sectional concrete smoke jack, a hood part comprising four substantially fiat pieces of reinforced concrete capable of being assembled, an integral head piece formed at the top of the hood part when so assembled, an annular channel in said head piece, and a chimney part comprising four substantially fiat rectangular pieces of reinforced concrete capable of being assembled, said chimney part When so assembled adapted to be secured to said hood part and in said annular channel in said head piece.
6. In a concrete smoke jack, a hood part comprising four substantially flat pieces of reinforced concrete capable of being assembled, an integral head piece formed at the top of the hood part when so assembled for supporting the smoke jack, an annular channel in said head piece, a chimney part comprising four flat rectangular pieces of reinforced concrete capable of being assembled, said chimney part when so assembled adapted to be secured to said hood and in said annular channel in said head piece, and a cap substantially square in plan adapted to be secured to said chimney part when assembled and secured to the hood part.
