DRESS SHIELD. APPLICATION. FILED MAR. 15, 1916.

I WW6??? 6am??? m??? DRESS-SHIELE1 I Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 5. 1216..
Application filed March 15, 1916. Serial No. 84,428.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARRIE M. STEWART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California; have invented new and useful Improvements in Dress-Shields, of which the following is ,a specification.
The invention relates to dress shields arid comprises improved means for holding one of the? flaps of the shield in position against the wearers arm when raised.
Th invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the shield with one of the flaps partly raised. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the shield with the wearers arm shown in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is also an elevation of the shield with one of the flaps shown raised considerably with the wearers arm which is shown in raised position in dotted lines.
The shield comprises two flaps 1 and 2, joined together on a curved line 3 adapted to conform to the arm pit. The flap 1 is placed against the body of the wearers garment while the flap 2 is placed within the sleeve of the garment and the shield is held on the garment in such position by safety pins 4. A flexible wire 5 is connected at its ends to the eyes 6 of the safety pins 4, which wire extends under and across the flap 2. The wire 5 is bent and twisted to form loops 7 and 8, the loop. 7 extending toward the forward edge of the flap 2 and the loop 8 being elongated and extending beyond the rear edge of said flap.
I The flexibility of the wire 5 enables it to be bent to conform to the arm. The length of the loop 8 is such that it may be bent around the outside of the arm in such position as to grip the arm sufficiently to enable the wire to hold the flap 2 properly in position against the inside of the arm.
' What ll claim is:
A dress shield comprising a pair of flaps,
a flexible Wire connected to the ends of the common joint of said fiapsand extending across one of said flaps, and a pair of spaced loops formed on said wire of sufficient extent so that they may be bent around the arm of the wearer and thereby grip the arm and hold said flap properly in position against the arm.
' In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
