ARM T@l COMBINATION-SUIT FOR WOMEN.
LQWZAESML Application filed February 19, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IDA M. STEPHENSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination-Suits for Women, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to union garments and more particularly to combination suits for women.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a garment which is out upon a pattern and formed in such manner that a better fitting and more comfortable garment is produced.
Another object of the invention is to provide an economically cut garment of this character wherein the upper edge of the drawers section is out upon an inclined line extending from the forward portion to the rear portion thereof which increases the length of the back seam, thus insuring a more comfortable and better fitting garment.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the garment. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the parts employed in forming one side of the garment.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the garment is constructed of six sections, four body sections and two drawers or leg sections which are joined to the body sections, as will be readily understood. The body sections consist of two front pieces 1 which are hemmed at their forward marginal edge to receive buttons or button holes or any other similar type of fastening device whereby the two front sections may be conveniently joined together. The forward upper edge of the front sections are cut away, as is usual, to produce a low neck and the rear upper edge is cut away and hemmed,
as shown at 2.. to produce a portion of the arm hole. The rear marginal edge of each section 1 is inwardly curved and corresponds to a similar inward curve on the forward edge of the back section 3 so that when these edges are joined together the garment Specification of Letters Patent.

will conform to the waist outline. The rear seam of the sections 3 is also formed on an inwardly extending are for a similar pur pose and the upper forward edge of the back sections is cut away, as shown at 4, so as to produce the remainder of the arm hole, as will be readily understood. The upper rear portions of the sections 3 are cut away so as to form the low neck which will be continuous with the cut away portion at the forward upper edge of the sections 1. The lower edge of each of the sections 1 and 3 is formed on the arc of a circle and when these sections are joined together a larger arc of similar outline is formed which is joined to the upper curved edge 5 of each drawers section 6. This upper line is formed on an incline from the forward edge of the sections 6 to the rear edge of these sections and the forward edge of each sectionis formed at an angle obtuse to the line 5 for a short distance, as shown at 7, and this marginal edge is hemmed to form a continuation of the hemmed edge 8 at the forward edge of the section 1. At the termination of the hemmed margin 7 each drawers section is cut on an inwardly inclined line to the lower marginal edge thereof and is joined to a similarly cut edge indicated at 9 at the rear of the section 6. These lines indicated at 9 and 10 are of equal length while the distance bet-ween the upper edge of these lines and the upper edge of the garment at the front and rear of the sections is considerably difi'erent, the rear marginal edgeabove the line 9 being approximately five and one-half inches longer, but is cut upon approximately the same inclination as the edge 7 and is indicated at 11, which effectually increases the size of the seat of the garment.
What is claimed is In a garment, in combination with a plurality of intersecured body sections, a pair of drawers sections, each drawers section being of the same shape and consisting of a piece of material cut to provide a straight longitudinal bottom edge, two oppositely inclined and coextensive lower side edges and two side edges of unequal lengths joining the first-named side edges but inclined in an opposite direction with respect thereto thereby making the top edge of each drawers section incline longitudinally, each of said drawers sections being to give said leg portions greater fullness at 10 their upper ends.
' In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
