IMPROVEMENT INY SHOW-CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,752, dated November 7, 1871.
To all 'whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HENRY GROVE, of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Show-Cases, of Which the following is a specication My invention consists of a show-case, to the corners of which shields are applied, as fully described hereinafter, so as to cover the joints formed by the junction of the side and edge moldings With each other and with the upright or inclined corner-pieces.
Figure l represents part of the frame of an ordinary show-case, and Fig. 2 the same-With my improvement.
In ordinary show-cases the joints formed at the junction of the side pieces c b and vertical strips c are exposed as shown in Fig. l, so that nice fitting by skilled Workmen is required to forni a close and accurate junction of the parts, especially when, as is usually the case, the strips or moldings are overlaid With thin metal. This nice fitting of the joints is objectionable, not only on account of the time, labor, and expense involved, but also because the joint must be a permanent one, rendering it necessary to secure the parts together in such a manner that they cannot be detached Without disguring them.
To overcome these objections I apply to the corners of the case shields B of metal or other material, of such a form as to cover the joints and t nicely against both the side and front or back edges of the moldings a b and against the strip o. These shields may be secured by screws or in any other suitable manner, and may be of such forms and coniiguration as to impart a highly-ornamental linish to the ease.
It will be apparent that the said shields may be applied to both the upper and lower corners of the case, and to cases of octagonal or other form, and to those in which the corner strips c are inclined in any direction.
Without confining myself to a shield of any special form,
