DOOD-OPERATING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 5, 1916.
Application led November 15, 1915. SerialANo. 61,615.
To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE R. WIMBERLY, ,l
a citizen of the United States, residing at Mountain Park, in the county of Kiowa vand State of Oklahoma, have invented new and usefull Improvements in Door-Operating Devices, of -which the following is a specifinaled the crank ends 11 of rocking levers cation.
The invention relates to a door operating; device, and more particularly to the classk l after fully described. Arrangedvfor vertical of combination door openers and locks.
'The primary object of the provision of a wherein a door or doors will be automatically unlatched and opened when a vehicle, truck or the like travels on to a runway, and subsequently the doers will close and latch on"` the vehicle, truck or the like leai'f-` ing the runway.
Another object provision of a formy toassure the positive locking of the doors closed and also for the automatic operation thereof under the'inuence of a load/upon a vehicle, truck or the like.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which is simple in construction, readily and easily applied to a door frame and doors of the slidi. type, thoroughly reliable and eliicient ','n operation, expenfsive in manufacture and installation.
- With these and otherobjects in view the invention consists in struction and the combination vand arrangement of parts hereinafter described, illustrated-in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a plan view of a door frame and sliding doors in closed position, with the device constructed in accordance with the invention applied; Fig. 2 is a view looking toward the inner side of the door frame and doors; Fig. 3 is a sectional vicw on the lineB-S of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is a sectional View on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1; Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of one of the latch members.
Similar reference characters-indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings in detail, A designates generally ca door frame which, in this instance, is slightly elevated above a foundation or flooring and B a pair of slidwhile secured to the inner edges o the invention is device ot this charactery of the invention is the device of this characterA wherein the construction thereof is novel in.
strong, durable and ,in
the features of con-l truding ends 26 ing doors which are mounted upon a track C by means of roller hangers D of any standard form so that the doors can be.
thereof,
the vertical stiles of the door frame A. .at the sill thereof'are bearings 10 in which' are jourmoved-or the opening and closin 12 which have thef'ree ends of their longer stretches coperative with latches hereinsliding movement next toand at theinner sides of the vertical stiles of the door frame A are operating rods 13 which are formed at their upper;v ends with eye termin'als 14 loosely engaging pivot ends 15 of the short stretches of the operating rods 13, the said rods being extended through suitable openings in the foundation or flooring at the inner side of the door frame A and are fixed in a depressible railf16 which is located beneath thefoundation or fioorinl contiguous to the sill of the door frame to form a bearing,r for a runway hereinafter fully describe The latches each comprise a pair of spaced parallel cheeks 17 which are suitably fixed to the inner side of the door and between these cheeks of the said latches are pivotedsubstantially L-shaped latch arms 18 which are-.adaptcd oi-"lugs 19 carried by the said doors V to normally lock the doors in closed position,
vthe said arms 118 being formed with cam exg tensions 20 against which operate the longer stretches of the arms 12 which play between .the cheeks 17 so that on the swinging move-- ment of the said arms 12 the extensions 20 the doors. On'eontinued further movement ol" the arms l2 idle doors will he automatically moved to open position.
(lonncctod to the the pivot'cnds l5 of the short stretches of the arms 12 are coiled retractile springs 21 which are also connected to the vertical stiles of the door frame A. so that when pressure is relieved from the rail 16 the springs 21 will become inactive for automatically closing the said doors.
The runway comprises a gangplank 22 which is formed with slots 23 in which are arranged tread bars 24 swingingly supported upon pivots 25, and these bars have prolieyond the plank 22 so as to engage upon the rail 1G for depressing to engage keeper ins 4 the same when a vehicle travels on to the bars 24, whereby the Weight of the'lad'of f the vehicle, truck or the like will eilectythe automatic unlatching of the doors and the nuwemcnt of the same to open pmo"`sition`-`y I711.011 the vehicle, truck or the like'leaves the hars 24 the pressure upon ,thefrail 16 ,is relieved, whereupon the springs 21 will effect 'the automatic closing of the doors and vthe latching of the same. 'It will be apparent 4'that when a vehicle travels into the inclosure through the door frame the doors are 44automatically unlatched and opened and on the vehicle leaving the inclosure the said more extended explanation 1has, therefore,
I, connection with I the accompanying dOOIS Will close and become alvltomaticallyA Alatched. r4
From the foregoing description, taken in drawings, thevconstruction and-manner of use of the device 'will be readily understood and a been omitted. l i
IInvingfthus described my invention, `I
`claim: z5 .The combination with a gangboard having depressible sections forming a trackway, of'a door frame, a pair of sliding doors mounted for opening and closing the doorway,r depressible sections mounted at one side of the doorway and alining with the depressible sections of the' gangboard, a vertically movable har supporting the free ends of the sections at one side of the doorway and also the sections in the gangboard, resilient means connected with said bar to normally hold the same elevated, levers pivoted to the doorway and also having connes tion with the doors and operated upon by movement ofl the bar, latch devices normally locking the doors closed and operated upon by the levers for releasing theJ same, and guide cheeks on the doors and having pins for contact by the levers.
u. In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
