Be it known that I, JOSEPH SIEGEL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

The invention relates to corsets, and it is the object of the invention to obtain a construction in which the lacing is protected by an underlying iiap which is held flat in all positions of adjustment.

More specifically it is an object to protect the lacing by overlapping flaps which are themselves drawn taut by the lacing as hereinafter set forth.

In the drawings: Figure l is an elevation of a portion of the corset viewed from the inner face; Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the outer face; Fig. 3 is a cross section showing the laced portions in one position of adjustment; and Fig. 4 is a similar view showing a different position of adjustment.

Heretofore corsets have been constructed with the lacing protected by a connecting strip of cloth of sufficient width to permit the adjustment to maximum size. With such construction, however, when the corset is closely laced the connecting section must necessarily fold or wrinkle. With the present invention this wrinkling is avoided by protecting the lacing with overlapping flaps secured respectively to the adjustable portions and these flaps in turn are held taut by engagement with the lacing.

As shown, A is a portion of the corset on one side of the lacing, and B the portion upon the opposite side thereof, each of which is provided with a. row of eyelets C and D.

E is a flap secured to and projecting from the portion A, and F is a iiap similarly secured to and projecting from the portion B. These flaps are of sufficient length to overlap each other in the adjustment of the corset to maximum Width, and the inner flap F Specification of Letters Patent.

is secured to the section B inside of the eyelets C. rIhus when adjusted to minimum width the iiap E is permitted to extend telescopically between the section B and the flap F as shown in Fig. 4f.

' Io hold the iiaps E and F taut in each position of adjustment, each of said flaps is provided with a series of eyelets G H near the edge thereof. These eyelets are spaced a considerable greater distance from each other than in the series of eyelets C and D, so that in the lacing of the sections together there will be occasional short loops which engage the iiaps to hold them in position. Specifically, as shown in Figs. l and 2, the lacing comprises a series of long loops I, which extend across between eyelets C and D of the portions A and B with interspersed short loops J and K. The short loop J eX- tends from the eyelets D of the section A to the eyelet II at the edge of the flap F upon the section B, while the short loop K extends from the eyelet C of the section B to the eyelets G at the edge of the flap F on the section A. rilhese loops being all formed from a continuous lacing will equalize with each other, thereby holding the flaps free from wrinkling and so as to protect the lacing.

I/Vhat I claim as my invention is In a corset, the combination with adjacent sections each provided with a series of eyelets for connection by a lacing, of lacing-protecting flaps secured to the respective sections and adapted to overlap each other, each of said flaps being provided with eyelets along its outer edge, and a lacing comprising long loops for connecting the eyelets of said sections and short loops for connecting the eyelets of said iiaps with the eyelets of the opposite section.
