INSULATING-TUBE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 5, 1916.
Application filed August 21, 1916. Serial No. 115,981.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, CARL T. MORENE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nixon, in the county of Gonzales and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Insulating -Tubes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in an insulating tube.
The object of the invention is to provide a tube of the character described designed for the purpose of protecting, securing in place, and insulating electrical wiring and has more particular relation to an insulating tube which will remain securely in position when placed in the bore through which the wiring must pass, irrespective of whether the tube is placed vertically or horizontally.
WVith the above and other objects in view the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, arrangement of parts and use, an example of which is given in this specification and illus trated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figures 1 and 2 show side and end views respectively of one form of tube employed. Figs. 8 and 4 show side and transverse sectional views respectively of a slightly modified form of tube, said sectional view being taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3, and Fig. 5 shows a longitudinal sectional View of the tube inserted into the bore and showing an electrical conductor therein.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures, the numeral 1 refers to a wall section having a bore therethrough of a size to receive the insulating tube 3. This tube is of such a length that its ends project out beyond the wall on each side so that the wiring cannot come into direct contact with said wall. The tube 3 is formed of porcelain or some other suitable insulating material. One end of the tube is provided with an enlarged head t and the other end is inserted through the bore, said head preventing the tube from being inserted too far, or from passing entirely through the bore.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Inorder to prevent the tube from falling out, in case it is inserted in a vertical bore, and also to prevent it from gradually workmg out on account of vibratlon, in case it is inserted in a horizontal bore, I have provided projections 5 around the body thereof. The ends of said projections toward the head 4 are suddenly offset forming abrupt shoulders which engage with the wall of the bore, when the tube has once been inserted and prevent its easy displacement. The projections taper from the abrupt end gradually so that the tube may be easily inserted and will gradually wedge in the bore and form a tight fit. The projections are wedge shaped, presenting flat outer surfaces so that they will wedge in the bore but not cut into the wood and cause the breaking of the tube when it is attempted to remove the same, and the shoulders are arranged in staggered relation so that they will more effectually engage with the wall of an irregular bore.
The numeral 6 refers to the electrical wlring which is inserted through the tube and by it insulated from the wall.
What I claim is:
1. An insulator embodying a tube one end of which has an enlarged head, a plurality of oblong wedge shaped projections carried by the body of the insulator, the ends of said projections, toward said head, forming abrupt shoulders, and being arranged in staggered relation.
2. An insulator embodying a tubular member, an enlarged head carried by one end thereof, wedge shaped projections carried by said member presenting flat outer surfaces, the ends of said projections toward. the head, being abrupt and arranged in staggered relation and the opposite end tapering to the surface of said member.
