UNITED 'sTATEs PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY T. BOISSEAU, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
COMBINED CAP AND HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 28, 1916.
Application filed April' 13, 1915. Serial No. 21,112.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,;HENRY J BoIssEAU,
a citizen of the United States, residing at- New Orleans, in the parish of rleans and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Caps and Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which appertains to make and use the same.
My inventionrelates to improvements in screw or other capsfor closing tooth paste tubes or other similar receptacles for toilet use and resides in the provision of a ,combined'cap and hanger which comprises a cap to act as a closure and means carried by the cap to'provide for the hanging of the receptacle to which the cap is attached in the desired position.
Another object is to provide a combined 1 cap and hanger in which the cap element thereof is arranged to act as a guide for the hook, nail or support on which the hanger is to be hung; during the operation of hanging the device, so that'the device may be quickly and easily hung up.
Another object is to provide a device of the character described which is compara-- tively flat thus permitting the storing of large numbers thereof in smallspace Another object of my-inve'ntion is to generally improve and simplify closure caps for tooth paste tubes and receptacles, shaving stick holders and the like so as to "render them more practical and useful withoutmateriallyl increasing the cost of manufacture j thereof. The above and additional objects are accomplished by such means as are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, described in the following specification and then more particularly pointed out in the claims.
With reference to the drawings, wherein I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention as it is reduced to practice,
and throughout the several views of which,-
similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved hanger and cap showingit attached to a tooth paste tube and hung upon a hook, Fig. 2 is avertical sectional view of my improved cap, Fig. 3 isa cross sectional view of a modified form of the invention. 1 7 Referring to the drawings by characters of reference '1 designates a flanged cylindrical cap of the ordinary type that is provided with internal screw threads 2 and is of such shape and size as to. be freely turned upon well known tooth paste and shaving stick holding receptacles.
V Preferably formed integral with the 'central part of the cap 1 "on the outer face thereof and extending outwardly at right angles thereto is a stud or shank 3 which carries at its outer end a preferably circular or cylindrical head 4. Formed in the head 4: at spaced points are circular hook receiving openings 5, and the outer edge of the head is corrugated or roughened, to prevent slipping of the finger in turning the head.
The head 4 is of greater diameter than the cap 1 and extends beyond the cap suficiently to dispose the openings 5 to one side of the cap, thus the device may be made comparatively flat since sufficient space between the cap and head to receivea hook like element is unnecessary.
' In using my invention the cap 1 is screwed in the ordinary manner upon the screw threaded nipple of the receptacle or tube. A hook 6 is secured to a wall or other suitable support 7 and is extended through one of the openings 5 in thehead 4 so as to support the tube or receptacle 8 to which the cap is attached. With my improved cap and hanger it will be se'en that the receptacle 7 may be kept properly sealed and easily hung up or removed from the hook. To hang the device the side of the cap 1 1s placed in engagement with the bill of the edges of the openings 5 are in alineinent with the outer side face of the cap, thus the bill of the hook is quickly guided into one of the openings when the device is in position as described.
Referring to Fig. 3, 16 designates a flanged cylindricahscrew threaded cap, and
hook and pulled downwardly to direct the bill into one of the openings 5. k The inner ings.
guiding of the bill of the hook into the open- With reference to the foregoing description and accompanying drawings, it will be observed that the several hanging elements of the cap not only serve as hanging means,
but act as handles whereby the caps may be readily screwed or unscrewed.
lhe device may be quickly hung in view of the guiding action provided by the cap.
In practice, I have found that the form of my invention, illustrated in the drawings and referred to in the above description, as
the preferred embodiment, is the most etli- 1. The combination with a closure cap for receptacles of a shank carried by the cap and extending outwardly from the outer end thereof, and hanging means in spaced relation with the cap carried by the shank.
2. The combination with a receptacle closure cap of a shank carried byvsaid cap and extending outwardly from the outer face thereof and a laterally projecting hanging element carried by said shank in spaced relation with the cap and projecting outwardly beyond the same, the side of the cap forming a guiding means for the hookfor engaging the hanging element.
1 3. The combination with a closure cap, of a shank extending outwardly therefromand aoaeeo formed integral therewith, and a circular head carried by said shank and being provided with a plurality of hook receiving openings therein, said cap being arranged to guide the bill of a hook into the said openmg.
4. A device of the class described includ- 1ng an interiorly threaded closure cap having vertical side Walls and provided with a central upwardly projecting shank rigid with ,the cap and a circular head consisting of a flat disk centrally connected to the outer end of the shank and being of greater diameter than and projecting out-' wa rdly beyond the cap in spaced relation with the top of the same and provided with openings having their inner walls arranged in substantially vertical alinement with the side wall of the cap, whereby the side walls of the cap areadapted to guide the bill of a hook into the said openings, said head being provided with a roughned periphery for screwing the cap on and ofi'.
5. A device of the class described includ 65 ing vertical side walls and a. circular head ing an inter'iorly threaded closure cap havprojecting outwardly beyond the vertical side walls of the cap and provided with ver tical openings having their inner walls arranged in vertical alinement with the side walls of the cap whereby the side walls or hook into the said openings.
In testimony whereof I afiix mfysignatnre in presence of two witnesses.
