DISPENSING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed February 5, 1916. Serial No. 76,432.
To all 20 lac m it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM L. BOAT- RIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Glendale, in the county of Maury and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dispensing Apparatus, of which the following is-a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in dispensing apparatus and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character having novel and improved means whereby the contents of a container may be readily discharged therefrom with convenience and facility.
Furthermore it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character adapted to be supported by a container and including a lifting mechanism extending within the container and operable to lift the contents of the container therefrom and deliver the same at a fixed point of discharge.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved dispensing apparatus whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view illustrating a dispensing apparatus constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view illustrating certain features of my invention as herein set forth; and Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view taken transversely through the lower end of the rotatable sleeve and illustrating certain features of my invention as herein embodied.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, B denotes a bin or other container having its bottom comprising converging walls 1, and having its upper end closed by a base plate 2 having produced at substantially its axial center an opening 3 through which is disposed a rotatable sleeve 4 having its lower end terminating in close proximity to; the lowermost part of the bottom of the bin B.
The sleeve 4 has afiixed to its upper extremity the gear wheel 5'which also coacts with the upper face of the base plate 2 and thereby serves to suspend the sleeve 4 in operative position.
Extending within the upper end of the sleeve 4 is the lower portion of the fixed sleeve 6, supported by the frame F extending upwardly from the base plate 2, and said fixedsleeve 6 has in communication therewith at apredetermined point intermediate its length the discharge nozzleor chute 7 which is especially adapted to deliver directly upon a scale or other measuring instrument.
Disposed through the sleeves 4 and dis a shaft 8 suitably supported by the frame F and provided with the spiral flange 9 leading from the lower end of the shaft 8 to a point adjacent the inner end of the chute or nozzle 7, whereby it will be perceived that the contents of the bin B will be lifted by the shaft 8 upon rotation thereof and caused to be discharged through the nozzle or chute 7.
As herein disclosed, the lower end of the sleeve 4 is closed and has produced in a side thereof immediately adjacent its closed end the entrance opening 10 with which coacts the shield or apron 11 carried by the sleeve 4 for causing the contents of the bin B to pass within the sleeve 4through the opening 10 therein, upon the sleeve 4 being rotated.
The gear 5 is operatively connected with a vertically disposed shaft 12 operatively supported by the frame F and the base plate 2, the upper end of said shaft 12 being provided with a bevel-gear 13 in mesh with a bevel-gear 14 fixed to the horizontal shaft 15 rotatably supported by the frame F and provided with a crank 16 or the like for imparting rotation thereto. The shaft 15 is also provided with a bevel-gear 17 in mesh with a bevel-gear 18 fixed to the upper end of the shaft 8, whereby said sleeve 4 and shaft 8 are caused to rotate in unison but in reverse directions. The lower end of the sleeve 4 is also provided with outstanding arms 19 terminating in the depending extensions 20, said arms 19 and extensions 20, upon rotation of the sleeve 4 serving to agitate the contents of the bin B and thereby assure the entrance of said contents within the sleeve 4 through the opening 10.
The base plate 2 has provided in the side wall a pocket 21 to receive bags or the like, or if preferred, the bags may be suspended from hooks 22 depending from the horizontai arm 23 carried by the upper end of the standard 24 supported, as at 25, by the frame F.
If preferred, the upper face of the bin B may be in excess of the size of the base plate 2 so that a scale S may be positioned directly on the bin B beneath the discharging end of the chute or nozzle '4, and if desired, the upper face of the bin B may be provided with the filling opening 26 normally closed by the hinged door 27.
From the foregoing thought to be obvious that a dispensing apparatus constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification Without madescription, it is sleeve and overlying the opening in the and depending therefrom and having its lower end closed and provided with an opening in a side thereof adjacent the closed end, a shaft disposed through the sleeve and provided with a spiral flange, means for rotating the shaft and sleeve in unison but in opposite directions, a shield carried by the sleeve, and outstanding arms carried by the sleeve at a point above the opening in the sleeve and terminating in depending extensions, said arms and extensions serving as agitating means.
