For purposes of illustration, it may be e1-iplained that the slitting and expand pg operations necessary to produce an expanded troughed fabric of the character referred to, may be and are successfully performed by the action of the slitting and expanding di preferably of the character disclose in m former Patent N 0. 1,049,632, dated January 7, 1913. These dies are operated within a suitable press, diagrammatically indicated in the drawings and designated by the refefiis to slit the sheet, and at the same time de form the slitted areas into a series of adjoining troughed expanded sections a (see Fig. i). It is this shape of material that is developed by the die-press as the blank is received from the primaryieedi'ng set, and it is this shape of material that is engaged and delivered by the dplivery feeding set.
Referring now to the features of the pres ent invention, it will be noted that the primary feeding set .essentially consists of a )air' of superposed-feeding rolls A and B.
referably each of these rolls A and B in cludes a plurality of flat-faced friction feeding-rollers 1 carried by the transverse shafts 2 and 3 of the upper and lower rolls A and B respectively, the said shafts having their opposite ends journaled in the bearing members at and 5 of the framework of the machine. With this arrangement, the feeding rolls A and B are adapted to receive a blank metal sheet from the feed table (5 and frietionally clamp, and engage the same therebetween to feed the press P. While the said shafts 2- and 3 are journaled in the bearing members above mentioned, they preferably project to hne side of the member 5 as will be clear from Fig. 1, to receive the gear wheels 7 and 8, and it will also be notedthat the shaft 3 in addition to having the gear 8 carries a ratchet wheehtl. Thus, as the gears-T and 8 inter-mesh, it is obvious-that the rolls A and B \villbe given an interrupted rotary feed movement when the shaft 3 is rotated intermittently-b3, the ratchet wheel 9, as will hereinafter inore'fully appear.
A distinctive feature of the present invention resides in the construction and action of the delivery feeding set arranged at the discharging side of the press to receive the troughed expanded r etal shape. This delivery feeding set ediiiprises a plurality of roll units 10, 11, and 2, which may be multiplied to any desired or required extent, and are preferably of duplicate construction. Upon an inspection of Figs. 3 and i, it will be seen that each of these delivery roll units 10, 11 and 12 includes a pair of superposed feed rolls Cand D, and each of these rolls in turn is preferably composed of a plurality of drawingdisks 13, of double tapered form. These disks 13 taper into a. relatively thin or narrow peripheral edge of a toothed or corrugated formation made up of uniform and regularly alternating notches 14 and the gripping'gprojections or teeth 14". With further reference to the structural fea tures of the delivery feed rolls C and D of each unit, it will be observed more especially from Fig 3, that the said drawing-disksl 'posite journal members 16 and 17. 3. iln a feed mechanism for metal expanding machines, a plurality of similar rollpairs having gripping elements progrcssircly displaced angularly, and driving means for operating all of the roll-pairs at equal speed.

In a feed mechanism for metal expanding machines, aplurality of similar rollpairs having ping projectionsof the several pairs of rolls having a progressive angular displacement from the plane of the vertical diameter of the rolls, and driving means for operating all of the roll-pairs at equal speed.
5. In a feed mechanism for metal expanding machines, a plurality of similar rollpairs each consisting of spaced drawing disks provided with gripping elements, the gripping elements of a progressive angular setting, and driving means for operating all of the rolls at equal speed.
6. In a feed mechanism for metal expanding machines, a plurality of similar rollpairs consisting of spaced drawing disks gripping projections, the grip" successive rolls having ha ring peripheral gripping projections, with the gripping prujuutiuns'uf one-pair being spaced a pro mrtimial angular distance from the set positions of those-in an adjacent pair, and driving means for all of the rolls.

In a feed mechanism formetal expanding machines, a plurality of roll-pairs having corrugated peripheries consisting of-unii'orm regularly alternating projections and notches, the projections for the disks of one roll having a progressive angular setting with. relation to those of the disks of the preceding roll-pair,anddriving means for operating all of the rolls at equal siwedr h. In a feed mechanism for metal expanding machines, a. plurality of roll-pairs consisting of double tapered spaced driving disks having corrugated peripheral edges, the corrugated edges of the disks of one rollpair having a progressive angular setting with relation to the corru ated edges of the disksof the preceding r0] -pair, and driving means for operating all of-the-rolls at equal spend.
9. In a feed mechanismfor metal expanding machines, the combination with alpress having means for forming an expanded troughcd metal shape,' of aiprimary feeding set for the press, a deliveryfe'eding set for the press including aplurality of similar roll-paigs having peripheral gripping projections for rogressiv ely and successively engaging difiiircnt tic pieces of'the fabric, and driving-means for simultaneously operating both feeding sets intermittently.
