To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ELMER H. JossELYN, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to boxes or containers and means associated therewith for holding the same in inclined positions for the purpose of effecting a display of the said boxes or their contents, means being also provided whereby the box supporting device may be so nested with relation to the box and its cover that the supporting device Will not interfere with packing of the boxes or their handling; furthermore, means are provided whereby the said supporting device automatically assumes a position under the box where it will be effective to perform the functions herein mentioned.

A still further object of this invention is to provide a box supporting medium having a simple construction. and being comparatively inexpensive in its application to the box.

WVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.

In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings forming wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in Which- Figure 1 illustrates a view in perspective of a box showing a fragment of the cover and the invention applied to said box; Fig. 2 illustrates a perspective View showing the box supports in one position of adjustment;

The supporting device comprises a length of metal having a central straight portion 9, the said straight portion being preferably of a length slightly greater than the width of the box and secured to the bottom of the said box by paper or other strip 10, preferably of a material that can be pasted to the bottom of the box straight portion of the support in position, yet allowing it to partially rotate with relation to the said box. 11 and 12, which are integral with the central portion and these arms terminate in angularly disposed extremities l3 and 14, respectively, which have the function of resting on the object which supports the box, it being the purpose of the inventor that these members shall be adjusted to hold the box in inclined positions so that a display of the contents of the box may be effected or in order that the advertising on the cover of the box may be brought to view to better advantage.

11 and 12 at their junction with the extremities 13 and 14: are preferably slightly closer together so that the distance between them is less than the distance between the said arms at their junction with the central straight portion, and as the material of which the arms or support is made is yieldable and preferably slightly resilient, the arms and their extremities may be swung to lie against the sides of the box so that portions thereof will lie between the box and the depending flanges or sides of the cover which overlie the sides of the box. By reason of this relation of parts, the support is nested so that it does not occupy any space which would interfere with the assembling of the boxes in a shipping crate or box and by reason of the resiliency of the said material of which the supports are made, thearms automatically spring so that the extremities thereof are under the bottom of the box to insure the coaction which will result in holding the said box in an inclined position.

ile in most instances, the device will be used in the position in which it is shown in Fig, 3, where thearms lie against the bottom of the box, it has been found in practice that if the support is adjusted to the for holding the said position in which it is shown in Fig. 2, an effective result is attained and it is possible to dress a window or show case to better advantage using both adjustments.

In Fig. 7, the box A has the supporting bracket B similar to the supports heretofore described, except in this form the angular extensions project in opposite direction to the arms to that shown in the other figures of the drawing. The operation is practi cally thesame as that heretofore described.

A box, a support therefor comprising a strip of resilient material having a straight portion intermediate its length extending beyond the sides of the box, means for rotatably securing the said straight portion tothe bottom of the box, arms extending at right angles to the said straight portion, and angular extremities on said arms, the distance between the arms at their ends being less than the distance between the said arms Copies of this patent at their junction with the straight portion and adapted to be sprung apart to pass the outer sides of the said box.

2. A box, a support therefor comprising a length of resilient material having a straight central portion, means for securing the said central portion to the box, arms extending at an angle to the central portion, the distance between the arms at their outer ends being less than the distance between the sides of the box to which the arms are secured and being adapted to be sprung to lie against the outer surfaces of the sides of the box when nested with relation to the said box.
