To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EARL WV. H001), a citizen of the United States, residing at Charles ton, in the county of Kanawha and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Can and Knife Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to holding and supporting utensils.

The principal object is to provide a novel and improved construction of article of this nature which may hold an ink receptacle and as well support a palette knife for use in dispensing the ink within the receptacle. The device is thus handy for printers, but at the same time, a limitation to this use is not to be inferred.

Another object is to provide an article of this nature capable of being readily stamped, with the exception of its handle, from a single sheet of metal or other suitable material and particularly one having a base, clasp lugs rising therefrom and integral therewith and a supporting means for a palette knife.

A very important object is the provision of a supporting arm for the said palette knife having a slot preferably of V-shape, closed at one end and open at the other and the arm at the last mentioned end, having one or more upturned lugs to serve as abutment means for the knife to prevent accidental displacement.

With the above and additional objects, such as will hereinafter appear, in view, the invention has been embodied in one preferrecl form as illustrated in accompanying drawings, and hereinafter described.

In said drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved utensil holding an ink receptacle and supporting a palette knife; Fig. 2 is a plan or top view of the improved utensil, and Fig. 3 is a fragmentary elevation of the top portion of the knife supporting arm.

Referring specifically to the drawings, A generally designates my improved utensil which is adapted to removably hold an ink receptacle B and a palette knife or other in strument to dispense the ink of receptacle B is shown at C.

The utensil A has a handle 4 of any approvedconstruction to be grasped by the operator and the remainder thereof is preferably stamped as an integer from metal or other suitable material. Of the latter part, 5 designates a base disk from which radiate a suitable number of outwardly and upwardly extending clasp members 6 to receive between them and engage the ink receptacle B as seen in Fig. 1. ing upwardly and connected to the disk 5 by means of an arm 7, is a vertical arm 8 which terminates in a horizontal arm 9 disposed above and over the receptacle 13. Parts 8-9 support the palette knife C. Arm 9 has an elongated slot 10 provided therein, preferably being of V-shape and closed at its narrower end and open at its wider end at the inner extremity of arm 9. At said extremity, arm 9 is preferably upturned to provide one or more lugs 11.

Also extend- The receptacle B is normally retained by the clasp members 6 resting on the horizontal portions of said members, the disk 5 and arm 7. Palette knife C or another suitable instrument, is supported above the receptacle B and its blade is received in the slot 10 and its handle rests on the upper surface of the arm 9. As a result, the palette knife cannot be readily displaced, since one end of the slot 10 is closed and the abutments 11 are disposed adjacent the opposite end of the slot and in position for abutment by the handle of palette knife G.

Since merely the preferred embodiment has been illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.

I claim:

A device of the class described, having an arm provided with an article-retaining slot, said slot being of substantially V-shape and closed at its narrower end, and said arm having a lug integral therewith and up turned adjacent the wider end of the slot to serve as an abutment for the article.
