IMPROVEMENT IN FASTENERS FOR MEETING-RAILS OF SASHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,441, dated October 31, 1871.
To all whom it may concern: i
Be it known that I, GEORGE M. HUBBARD, of New Haven, in the county ot New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new In1- provement in Sash-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents in Figure l a top View; Fig. 2, a view from the under side; Fig. 3, a rear view; Fig. 4, a longitudinal section on line w w; and in Fig. 5, a transverse section on line z z.
This invention relates to an improvement in that class of sash-fasteners which is secured to the lower bar of the upper sash, and in which a lever is arranged to turn around and grasp the keeper on the lower sash, the object being to lessen the expense of manufacture by making the construction such that the parts may be cast and put together with very little labor. To this end my invention consists in forming the rear open with a iange above and below, between which iian ges the lever is set extending through the opening, the recess above and below forming a bearing for the fulcrum of the lever, and combined with a spring between the said flanges and against the end of the lever to retain it in position.
A is the lower ange or plate, and B the upper; C, the rear. Through the rear is formed an opening, D, and the two iianges are recessed, as seen in Fig. l, the center of the recess forming a bearing, a., for the fnleruni d of the lever E, both above and below the lever, as seen in Fig. 3. F is a spring formed of iiat steel or other suitable material, placed between the flanges and in the rear of the lever, as seen in Figs. 3 and 4. The lever is formed with the fulcruin d d east thereon in the form of trimnions, and is passed through from the front flatwise, and the lever then turned to bring them to their seat 5 the spring F is afterward inserted.
I claim as my invention- A sash-fastener, consisting of the rear plate C and the lower and upper iian ges A B, and the lever E, having the seat for the fulcruln of the lever formed by a recess, a., in the upper and lower flange, and combined with a spring, F, between the said flanges and in the rear of the said lever, as and for the purpose specified.
