Be it known that I, WILLIAM L. Con- -N0LLY, a citizen of the United States, and

a resident of New York, county and State ofNew York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Candelabrum, of which the following is a full, clear, and exactspecification. 7

- This lnventlon relates to a class of canwhichaare mounted rows of cups for bolding the candles, the supporting, arms and the cups being'relatively arranged in the form of a cross-disposed on an incline so that the li 'hts of the candles will appear-in similar formation. p I Another'object of the invention is to provide a standard composed of two extensible members, and on one of these membersisdetachably mounted the. supporting arms so as to be adjusted to suitableheights; and still another object of the invention is to provide a base, or bracket adapted to be detachably applied to the extensible standard I whereby the standard and the cross-shaped arms may be properly supported.

A further object of the invention isto 1 provide a form of candelabrum which may be made in any desired size in plain or highly ornamental designs.

A practical embodiment ofthe invention is represented in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, the said invention being more fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claim at the end of the description.

In the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of candelabrum embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the rod of the standard of thecandelabrum.

Fig. 3 is an elevation of the recessed post of the standard, and Fig. 4 is an elevation of the foldable bracket employed in the candelabrum.

supporting member 10 which is in the form of a cross whereby a lower arm-11, an integral upper arm 12, and two oppositely extending transverse arms 13 and 1 1 are pro vided. All of the arms of the supporting member may be of any suitable shapes, though these arms are preferably fiat, .as shown. The transverse arms 13 and 14 are hinged, at 16 and 17, to the opposite edges 3;

of the lower part of the upper arm 12 so that all of the arms will be on the same rela .tive plane aswell as permitting the transverse arms to beswungalongside of the upper arms, and these transverse arms are of similar lengths to the upper arm of the cross-shaped member.

Thecross-shaped member 10 is disposed on an incline, and projecting downwardly from the underside of the arm 11 thereof is a vertically disposed boss 18 having a threaded recess 19 in itsv free end. Mounted I on the upper surface of all of the arms of the supporting member 10 are. two rows of spaced cups, as 20'and 21, each of which is so that the candles when lighted will appear n a similar cross-shaped formation disposed on an incline. While in the drawmg I show a form of the candelabrum 'wherein two-rows of cups arranged in the shape of a cross are used, it will be under- .stood'that forms of the cross-shaped supporting member may be made so that any desired number of rows of cups may be employed.

, Serving to permit the supporting member 10 to be raised or lowered to suitable heights, a standard, as 22, is provided, and this standard is composed of two extensible members 23 and 24:. The member 23 is in the form of a post having a recess 25 in its upper part, and in theupper part of the post is a threadedopening 26 which communicates with the recess 25. In the threaded opening 26 is a thumb screw, as 27. The member 24 is in the form of a rod which is movably inserted in the recess 25, and the upper part of this rod is threaded so as to be screwed in the recess 19 of the boss 18 of the supporting member 10 for detachably sired height, the member, or rod 24 is accordingly adjusted in the member, or post 23 after the thumb screw 27 has been loosened. By then tightening the thumb screw the rod 24 will be held against movement in the post.

In order to properly support the standard 22, I provide a foldable base, or bracket, as 28. The foldable bracket 28 has a ring, or band 29 which is of a diameter'to adapt it to be freely guided over the post 23 0f the standard 22, and through this ring is a threaded opening 30 in which is passed a thumb screw 31. Extending-in lateral directions at spaced intervals from the ring 29 are pairs of lugs, or ears 32, and each pair of the lugs have transverse registered openings in which is held a pin, or pintle 33. The pairs of the lugs 32 are'triang'ularly disposed relatively to the axial center of the ring, and on the pintles 33 between'the pairs of the lugs are rotatably held the upper ends of legs, as 34, 35, 36. The legs 34, 35, 36 may be of any desired shapes and lengths, and on the lower-end of'each leg is provided a foot, as 37. By-pivoting the legs 34, 35, 36 in this manner to the ring 29 the legs may be directed inwardly-and outwardly with respect to each other. To

properly support the standard-22- and the supporting member 10 when the candelabra are in use the ring 29 is guided over the post22, and by tightening the thumb screw 31 it will engage the =-post for removably securing the bracket 28'thereto. The legs 34, 35, 36 are then swung in outward diverging directions from the standard, as shown, and to limit the outward movement of the legs the upper ends'thereof are bent inwardly toward the ring to provide vertical edges which serve as stops 38 adapted to movably engage the ring when the legs are thus positioned. In order to separate the parts of the candelabrum when not in 'use so'as'tobe packed in a compact parcel to enable it to be conveniently carried by a person, or transported, the bracket 28 is detached from the standard 22 by removing the ring 29 thereof from the standard after the thumb screw 31%is loosened. The supporting member 10 is unscrewed from the rod 24, and this'rod is then lowered in the recess of the post 23.
