A further object is to provide an exhibiting apparatus Which, in closed or non-display position, will be protected by covers, and in extended or display position, will throw back the covers and the articles to be exhibited will be moved to a position so that A further object of the invention is the provision of automatic working parts that will move the inclosing covers to an open position as the apparatus is moved to its extended or display position.

The invention is capable of several mechanical expressions, but the particular one desired for showing the inventive idea is illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which I Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a part of the apparatus in extended position and the covers thrown to open position; Fig. 2 shows the apparatus and covers in closed position; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the supporting parts of the apparatus made from one sheet of metal.

In the drawings, 1 is a main support,

frame, or back which may be attached to any wall or support by means of supporting pins passing through holes 2, 3. The article-supporting arm or carrier 4 is pivoted totheback 1 by means of the U-shaped frame 5 and the rod 6. This arm is pivoted to the back 1, preferably at the top. In the edges of the arm 4 are inserted a plurality of projecting adjacent supporting members 7 preferably of the looped-finger type. ,The projections are formed so that they are contiguous, or they may be spaced apart as shown. Any article to be exhibited is supported on the members 7; in this case it is particularly adapted to support necktles, one being shown at 8. The lower end of arm 4 is adapted to swing from an in or out-of-theway normal position to an out or extended position.

display position to and from the back 1, so that, in said extended position, each tie or article supported on members 7 will fall away from-the article next to it in order that an inspection may readily be made. The arm or article carrier 4 is held in extended or display position by means of two rods 9 and 10 forming a toggle joint breakable at 13; the rods are pivotally attached to the back 1 and arm 4 at 11 and 12, respectively; however, any form of retaining means may be employed to perform this function.

Extending from the sides of the back 1 are cover supports 14 and 15 which are designed to carry covers or parts or sections of coi'ers, usually of cloth, which inclose the members 1 and 4, when they are in normal or closed position. A rod 16 is connected with the cover supports at their extremities 17 and 18, and is supported in the middle by the post 19 which is inserted in back 1. Attached to rod 16, near its extremities, are the ends of a rod 20 which is bowed out over the front part of the apparatus. A supporting rod 21, attached to rod 16 at its junction with post 19, supports the rod 20. Over this frame is arranged a top cover 22, a portion of which is shown, and which assists in preventing dust, dirt and any foreign material from collecting on the neckties' or articles supported by the arm 4.

The socket portions 17 and 18 of the extending supports 14 and 15 are formed to pivotally support the rods 25, 26 which are adapted to carry depending side covers 27 and 28. These rods andtheir covers are movable to normally inclose members 1 and 4, as shown in Fig. 2, or they may be moved to open or display position allowing the arm 4 to be thrown into its extended or display The movable rods 25, 26, when moved to closed position, swing together just beneath the rod 20.

Attached tothe rods 25, 26, near-their pivoted supports, are lugs 29 and 30, which are connected to the links 31 and 32, respectively. The other ends of these links are attached to the rocker arms 33 and 34, respectively. The rocker arms are pivoted on back 1 at the points 35 and 36, and their lower ends are connected to a rod 37 by links 38 and 39. The rod 37 extends to a member 40 which is pivoted on the back 1. The member 40 has a curved extended horn, neck or hook 41 which is adapted to catch in the staple 42 mounted on the arm 4.

In operatingv the'apparatus from the open or display position shown in F g. 1 to the normal or closed position shown in Fig.2, the toggle joint 9, 10 is moved back over its dead center, and the arm 4 drops toward the back 1 and comes into contact with hook- 41, forcing it downward and into the staple 42. This oscillating movement of member 40 carries the rod 37 downward and the rocker arms pull the links 31 and 32 toward the center of back 1, and the cover-carrying rods 25, 26 are moved to the closed position, as shown in Fig. 2. Mounted on the supports 14 and 15 are two stops 43, 44 which limit the inward movement of the lugs 29 and 30, and thereby cause, the covers to take .a certain position when they inclose the supporting arm 4.

In moving arm 4 to an extended or display position, its lower end is pulled outward and the staple 42 follows the under side of the neck 41, causing member 40 to oscillate, and, by the connected mechanism described above, the covers 27 and 28 are thrown outward so that a ready inspection may be made of the articles supported on the arm 4.

Th apparatus herein described is particularly adapted to be used as a holder for neckties, but it may be used to exhibit otherarticles and for other purposes. The mechanism whlch automatlca-lly moves the covers or cover-sectlons from the inclosing to open position may be modified, or the articlesupporting arm or carrier may be attached in other positions on other supporting members, or the covers may be composed of one or more curtains; but all such modifications of the principle of this invention are considered to be within the scope of the invention, as set forth by the appended claims. What is claimed is 1. In an exhibiting apparatus or display rack, the combination of a carrier movable approximately vertically from a non-display to a display position, means on said carrier for detachably supporting individually and separately in a suspended position a plurality of articles to be displayed such as neckties, a cover movable from a closed protecting position to an open display position, and means automatically moving one of said parts upon movement of the other.

2. In an exhibiting apparatus or display rack, the combination of an article carrier movable approximately vertically from an upright non-display to an outstanding display position, means on said carrier for detachably supporting individually and separately in a suspended position a plurality of articles such as neckties, a cover movable approximately horizontally from a closed protecting position about the carrier When in its upright non-display position to an open displayposition, and means automati cally moving one of said parts upon movement of the other.

3. In an exhibiting apparatus or display proximately horizontally from a closed protecting position about the carrier in its depending position to an open display position,land means automatically moving one of said parts upon movement of the other.

4. In an exhibiting apparatus or display rack, the combination of an article carrier movable approximately vertically from an upright non-display position to an outstanding display position, a plurality of supporting members on said carrier adapted to detachably support individually and separately a plurality of articles such as neck ties, a plurality of cover sections movable from a closed protecting position about the carrier in its upright non-display position away from each other to an open display position, and means associated with the carrier and coversections automatically moving one upon movement of the other.

In an exhibiting apparatus or display rack, the combination of an article carrier movable from a display to a non-display position, means on said carrier for detachably supporting individually and separately in a suspended position a plurality of articles to be displayed such as neckties, a cover movable from a closed. protecting positionabout the carrier and articles thereon to an' open display position, and means automatically moving the cover during a part only of the movement of the carrier to and from its display position.

In an exhibiting apparatus or display rack, thecombination of an article carrier I movable approximately vertically from a non-display to a display position, means on said carrier for detachably supporting individually and separately in a suspended position a plurality of articles to be displayed such as neckties, a cover movable from a closed protecting position to an open display position, and cover-operating means :10- tuated by movement of the carrier to open and close the cover.

7. In an exhibiting apparatus or display rack, the combination of an article carrier movable from a non-display to a display position, means on said carrier for detach.- ably supporting individually and separately in a suspended position a plurality of articles to be displayed such as neckties, a topa closed position with relation to said top cover and earner, and means associated with said s1de cover and carrier automatically moving one of said parts upon movement of the other.

8. In an exhibiting and display rack, the combination of an article carrier movable from an upright non-display to an outstanding display position, means on said carrier for detachably supporting individuallyiand separately in a suspended position a plurality of articles to be displayed such as neckties, a top cover, a plurality of side cover sections movable from an open to a closed position with relation to each other and the top cover and carrier, and cover operating means actuated by movement of the carrier to open and close the side cover sections.

9. In a device as described, a back, an article supporting arm pivoted to the top part of said back, a frame extending over said device, a cover for said frame, supports extending from the sides of said back, rods pivoted in said supports and adapted to oscillate into close proximity to said frame, covers mounted on said rods for inclosing said supporting arm in one position and to uncover said arm when in another position, and automatic means for moving said rods when said supporting arm is swung to extended position.

10. In a device as described, a back, an

article supporting arm pivoted to the top part of said back, a frame extending over said device, a cover for said frame, supports extending from the sides of said back, rods pivoted in said supports and adapted to oscillate into close proximity to said frame, covers mounted on said rods for inclosing said supporting arm in one position and to uncover said arm when in another position, automatic means for moving said rods when said supporting arm is swung to extended position, and means for holding said supporting arm in extended position.
