Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 19, 1915.
Application filed May 26, 1914. Serial No. 841,037.
To allwiwmit may concern. q
Be it known that I, ALBERT G. Mowrrz,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Collingswood, in the county of Camden and State of NewJersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Cases, of which the following is. a specification, reference being hadtherein -to.the
accompanying drawing. a p
It is an ob ect of-this invention to provlde in a display-case means whereby, when the case is opened, goods therein will be raised to a higher position than they occupy when the case is closed, and whereby the closing of the case will result in return of the goods to normal or lower position.
" Thecase more particularlyis designed hold and display clothing. or the like carried on. hangers, and the arrangement is such that, when the top and'part of the front of the case, which are connected rigidly together, are opened, a barextendlng longituchnally or the case and supportlng the goods will be raised, whereby the goods are- 3 brought to position of better display and where they are more easily accessible for removal.
hen read in connection with the description herein, the details of constructionand arrangement of parts contemplated by the invention will be apparent from the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, wherein an embodiment ofthe invention is disclosed, for purposes of illustration.
While the embodiment disclosed now isv considered a preferable one, it is to be understood that it merely. is exemplary of the principles of theinvention, that it is not the intention to be'limited necessarily thereto in interpretation of the claims, and that changes Within the limits of the claims can be made without departing from the nature and spirit of the invention.
ike referencecharacters refer to corresponding parts in the views of the draw ings, of which t Figure 1 is a front view, showing the case open; F ig. 2 is a transverse sectional view, the parts being in closed position; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view, the parts being in open position; Fig. 4 is a fragmentary horizontal sectional view, at the pivotal point of the carrier; and Fig. 5 is a fragmentary "the top of the case.
the lower portion at the front, and at the rear of the top a fixed part 10 of the cover extends for a short distance from the back 1 of the case. The remainder of the front and top of the case i'sclosed by a frame carrying panes of glass or other transparent mate- .fixed part 9 of the front ofthe case closes rial 11, and the frame comprises a front portion 12 and a top portion 13 rigidly con nected together at an angle corresponding to the end shape of the case, as at right angles in the embodiment shown.
Inside of the case at or near each end a b38614.- is secured to the bottom, and from thisrises a standard 15 extending nearly to Each standard at or near its top has a rearwardly-extending bracket 16, on which is pivotally mounted a carrier 17. The frame comprising thefront and top portions 12 and l3 is secured at its ends tothe carriers 17, and the parts are so proportioned and located that the frame may be swung on the carriers to position completely to close the case at the front and top or swung from closed position to that at which the top has vertical and the front horizontal disposition and the case opened at which time the front is considerably above the top edges of the ends 6.
Each standard 15 is of hollow formation,
and therein is a vertically movable slide 18.
A rod or bar 19 is secured to and supported by the slides, and this bar is arranged to have goods in the case hung thereon. Each slide in its lower portion is formed with a or permitted to move downwardly and the bar or red 19 carrying goods is moved to bring the goods to display or retracted positions. In order to keep the frame in open position and to preventdownward movement of the slides under the influence of the weight of the goods imposed thereon, a
counter-weight may be hung on each lever 22 and a counter-weight 26 may be secured to the carriers at places distant from their pivotal points or such a weight may extend along the full length of the hinged top near its rear edge.
Each slide is prevented from lateral displacement from its standard by engagement of its rack in the lower portion with the v toothed segment of the lever and by lugs or projections 27- abutting the rear side of slide at the top, the latter formation being shown by Fig. 4.
When it is desired to open the case, a handle 28 at the front-of the frame is grasped by thehand and the frame swung upwardly and rearwardly until the top has reached substantially vertical position and the front substantially horizontal position, the movement being stopped at the proper time by contact of the hinged portion of the top with r the fixed part 10 of the top and the parts bea ing held in open position by the counterweights. During the opening movement, the slides and the goods-supporting bar or rod are moved upwardly. The case is closed by a reversal of this operation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s v 4 1. A display-case having a standard near for goods mounted on the slide, a bracket extending laterally from the lower portion of the standard, a l'everipivotally mounted intermediate its ends on said bracket and 1 having at one end a toothed segment in mesh with said rack and a link pivotal-1y connected near its other end, a bracket extending laterally from the upper portion of the -.StLI1Cl2\ICl and having a carrier pivotally mounted thereon, said link being pivotally connected to said carrier, and a closure for the case secured to said carrier.
In testimony whereof I a'fiix' "signature in presence of two witnesses. i p ALBERT. C. MOWITZ;
