Fig.1f I
JOHN MALICKI, F AMSTERDAM, NEW YORK.
COMBINED CIGARETTE AND. MATCH BOX.
' To all whom it may concern:
I Be it known that I, JOHN MALICKI, a subject-of the. Czar of Russia, residing at Ann sterdam, in the county of Montgomery and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Cigarette and Match Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
. This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements 1n combined cigarette and match boxes.
.-An object of the present invention .is' to 1 provide a paper receptacle for containing cigarettes and matches and in which independent compartments are provided for each, while the sliding drawer that contains the'matches is also provided witha compartment for the reception of ashes to render the container an seful device when it is desired-to smoke indoors and to have a ready receptacle for the ci arette ashes. v
A further .object'o the inventi on is to pro 'vide a container for holding cigarettes and matches-and in which each compartment is independently constituted While cooperativelocking means are carried by the match com-- partment and the cigarette compartment to hold the match slide within the container when the box is completely closed.
With these general ob ects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and then claimed.
In the drawings forming a part of'this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several viewer-Figure 1 is a longis tudinal sectional view ofthe combined cigarette and match box built in accordance with the present invention, the upper wall of the outer receptacle beingt removed, betterto illus; trate the inner parts. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the cigarette foldend'etached from the box, illustrating the locl ing tongfie carried by the inner end wall thereof, and, Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the combined match drawer and ash receptacle removed from the casing,
illustrating the slotted side wall of the receptacle.
I Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing, the reference numeral 10 Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 19,1915, Serial No.46,359.
Patented Nov. 7,
designates the upper wallof the outer cas- .ing and 11 the lower wall, being completely open at the outer end as indicated in Fig; 2 and having a transverse partition wall 12 1am. I
positioned adjacent the inner end thereof while the extreme in er'end is closed by the endwall 13. An ab rasive substance 14 in the form of a coating or applied sheet is car ried by the end wall 13 to facilitate the v striking of matches.
The inner end of the receptacle is com.-
. pletely open at the sides at points between the partition 12 and the endw-all 13 and slidably mounted withinsaid opening is the drawer 15 shown more clearly in Fig. 4 and including atransverse partition. 16 to divide the "drawer into two compartments, one for matches as is indicated at 17 whil'e the other compartment 18 may be utilized as a receptacle for cigarette ashes or other refuse. The matchpompartment 17 is provided with a longitudinal slot 19 on the inner wall thereof, and substantially extending throughout the major portion of its length for purposes to resently appear. p
[A hol er for the cigarettes is shown in detail in Fig. 3 and includes the bottom wall 20 formed of a blank of paper and scored at suitable points to provide side folds 21, an end fold or wall 22, and a lower front fold or wall 23, a cover fold 24 being car ried by the other end of" the bottom wall 20 and to which is-connected a cord or string 25 to' facilitate the removal of thecigarette carrier from the case. The end wall 22 of the cigarette carrier is provided with a cutaway portion constituting an outstanding tongue 26 that passes through a slot 27 in the partition 12 and is adapted to be received in the slot 19 of the drawer 15 as shown in Figs. 1 and2 to prevent sliding movement of the drawer when the cigarette carrier is wholly positioned within the'case.
' From the above detailed description of the cigarette carrier is returned to a position wholly within the case, the tongue carried thereby will be received in the match drawerto partially re- 2% I 1 ,eoaeeo and the said drawer will be effectively locked within the case and accidental displacement .thereof will be wholly obviated.
lVhile the form of the invention herein shown and described is what is beheved to v be the preferred emh ,liment thereof, it is slidably mounted within said compartment,
the said partition and adjacent sidewall of the drawer hav ng registering openings therein, a cigarette carrier positioned in the opposite end of the casing, and an outstand:v
mg tongue carried by the end wall of said carrier adapted to pass through the registering openings in the partition and drawer wall to prevent lateral displacement of the said drawer.-
2. A cigarette container comprising an outer casing having a transverse opening therein,'a drawer slidably mounted within said opening," a cigarette container slidably mounted within said casing at right angles to the line of movement of the drawer, and ooperative locking means carried by the drawer and container to prevent lateral di placement of the drawer when the container is wholly positioned within the casing.
3i cigarette container comprising an outer casing having a transverse opening at one end thereof extending therethrough, a
drawer slidably mounted in said opening .to be removed from either side of said (20th tainer, a cigarette carrier slidably mounted within the container {or movement 11'). a direction at right angles to the sliding movement of the drawer, and interlocking con nections between the drawer and cigarette carrier made operative when the drawer and carrier are wholly positioned within the casing. 1 J
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JOHN MALICKI.
