Specification of Letters Patent. Patnted Oct. 31, 1916.
Application filed June '4, 1916. Serial No. 101,385.
for its object the provision of novel means t'or manipulating the plugfor the purpose of \vitln'lramng it from the terminal on the iron and also for supporting the 1ron on its end when the plug is in place on the terminal of the iron, the said plug being quickly removable so as to prevent undue arcing of.
the current when the plug is removed! 'ith the foregoing and other objects in view. the invention consists in the'details of construction, and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
'In describing the invention in detail,
reference will be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification,
" wherein like characters denote corresponding 'parts in the several views, and in which-' I I Figure 1 illustrates'a view in elevationof the iron and plug with. a fragment of a conductor; Fig. 2 illustrates an enlarged detail view of the said plug and a fragment of the conductor; F 1g. 3 1llustrates a plan v1ew of the plate; and Fig. 4: illustrates an edge view thereof.
In these drawings 5 denotes thebody of the iron, 6 the handle and 7 th handle bracket by which the handle is connected to their-on. The bracket 7 has anaperture 8 for the reception of a tongue 9 carried by the plug 10 and the said plugis intended/to fit on the terminal .11 projecting'fro n the body of the iron. The body of the iron is further supplied with an outwardly extending arm 12 which constitutes one of the supports of the iron when it is placed on end whereas the iron isfurther supported by the curved end- 13 of the platelt, which plate is secured to the plug 10. I
As shown 'in the drawing. the plate 14: has a plurality of apertures 15 to receive fastenings 16 by which the'plate'is secured to the plug and the curved end 13 of the said plate is effective for use as a support for the iron whenthe said iron' is placed in the.
position in whichit is shown in Fig. 1, or the said'curved end may constitute a hook oripull to be engaged bya finger of an operator for the purpose of withdrawing the plug from the terminal.
I claim- An iron having a support, and a terminal,
a handle bracket having an aperture secured to the iron, a plug having a projection fitting in the aperture of the'handle bracket, 7
and a plate secured'to the plug, said plate having a curved end-constituting a finger engaging member and a coaoting support for the iron when said ironstands approximately vertically.
