To all whom it may concern:
Be it hnown that ll, REUBEN B. BENJAMIN, a citizen ot the llnited States, residing at Chicago, in the county oit Cook and State or lllinois, have invented new' and usetul improvements in Binding-Terminals, .or which the tollowing is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part ot thisspecication.
My invention relates to binding terminals.
@ne ot the objects ot my invention is to provide a binding terminal which will be simple in construction yand ef'icient in use.
ln the drawings, in which l have shown several embodiments or my invention- Figure 1 is an arial section ot a receptacle provided with my improved binding terminals;

big. d is a perspective view ofthe binding screw;
lFig. 5 is a bottom view or the binding screw; i
lFig. 6 is a perspective view .ol the center contact and its leading in wireg big. 7 is an axial section ot a diderentform or receptacle big. 8 is a section on the line 3-3 ot lFig. 7;
lFig. 9 lerent torni ot binding terminal;
lFig. 10 is a bottom' view of big. 9
liig. l1 shows a bottom view of a moditiedI term ot binding screw; and
Fig. 12 is a side elevation or lli 11. Referring to the drawings in 'etaih the receptacleshown in Figs. 1 to 6, inclusive,
comprises an insulating base'lO, shell and center contacts 11 and 12 supported by the base, and binding screws 13 and 1l for the shell and center contacts.
The shell contact 11 has a Hange 15 tor securing i-t to thebase and a struck up cupl shaped Iportion 16 termin a pocket or recess tor receiving the head ot the binding screw 13. rl`he center contact 12 comprises a spring contact portion 17, a base portion 16 secured to the base 10`by means of an eyelet 199 and a struch up cup shaped portion 20 torming a poclret or recess tor receiving is an axial section showing a dilthe head ot the binding screw 1l. rlllie binding screws 13 and 11i engage nuts 21 and 22 respectively., '"lhe cup shaped portions 16 and 20 are yprovided with openings 23 and 24:, respectively, and the base 10 is provided with passages 25 and 26 through which the leading in wires 27 yand 28 are inserted so that their ends will be engaged by the heads ot the binding screws 13 and lll.
lhe binding screws 13 and 14e are identical and each comprises a head 29 which isl recessed at 30 to form a curved shoulder 31 for engagement with the endofathe leading in wire.
lin wiring the receptacle the ends or the leading in wires are ,inserted through the passages 25 and 26 and through the openings 23 and 2l and into the recesses 30 rot the binding screws.. As each screw is tighti' cned up its shoulder 31 engages the end ot the leading in wire to Wrap it around the shank ot the screw and to torce it tightly against the bottom ot the struck up` cup f the rear and the openings 3l and 35 are correspondingly positioned.
lln the torni shown in Figs. 9 and 10 the insulating base 36 is provided with a receptacle 37 for the entrance of the leading in wires and with a pair ot circular recesses 38 and 39 to receive the heads of the binding screws. Passages d0 and l1 for the leading in wires are provided leading from the central opening 3 to theI recesses 38 and 39. ln this form the walls or the recesses 38 and 39 -revent the ends oit the wires from escaping trom engagement with the shoulders 31 or the bindin screws and hold them in roximity to the s anks of the screws.
n Figs. 11 and 12 the binding screw al is recessed on both sides as shown at d5 and 46 so that the engagement ot the end or the wirewith the head ol the binding screw is somewhat facilitated..
Having thus described my invention what. I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A binding terminal construction comprising a threaded binding-screw having a head beneath which the end ofthe conductor is clam' ed and having a sweep portion to wrap the end of the conductor about the shank of the screw, and a sheet-metal member having a pocket formed therein to receive the head ofthe screw and to hold the end of the conductor adjacent the shank 'of the screw, said sheet-metal member having a passage therein leading to the bottom of said pocket for the entry of the end of the conductor to thebottom of the pocket beneath the head of .the screw, said passage being to one side of the axis of said screw.
2. An electrical device comprising a threaded binding-screw having a head beneath which the end of thc conductor is clamped and having a sweep portion for wrapping the end of the conductor about thc shank ot the screw, and an integral sheetmetal member comprising a contact portion for engagement with a coperating contact` said sheet-metal member having a pocket formed therein to receive the head of the screw to hold the end of the conductor adjacent the shank of the screw and having a passage therein leading to the bottom ot' said pocket for the entry of the'end of the conductor to the bottom of the pocket, beneath the head of the screw, said passage being located to one side of the axis of said screw.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name.
REUBEN B. BENJAMIN.
