NELS E. POLSON AND HELMEB R. PAULSON, OF LA GRANGE, ILLINOIS.
ELECTRIC-IRON-CC JRD TAKE-UP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it lmown that we, Nnns E. POLSON, a subject of the King of Sweden, and HELMER R. PAULSON, a citizen ofthe United States, and residents of the city of La Grange,
county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter .described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a side view of a construction embodying our invention, Fig. 2, a top plan view of thesame, Fig. 3, an enlarged detail end view of the construction, Fig. 4, an enlarged side view illustrating more fully the manner of attaching the construction to an ironing board, and Fig. 5, a section illustrating a different method of attaching the construction to the ironing board.
The preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawings, comprises a base block 6 having a depending metallic hanger 7 secured thereto and adapted to hang over the edge of an ironing board 8 when base block 6 rests on top thereof, as indicated.
At its lower end, hanger 7 carrles an inwardly off-set wedge abutment 9 cooperating with a wedge member 10 to secure the base block 6 to the top of the ironing board 8, as will be readily understood. Wedge member 10 is secured to block 9 by means of a chain 11 so as toprevent its loss. This arrangement constitutes a simple and efficient one for detachably mounting the base block 6 on the top of an ironing board 8 adjacent one corner thereof, as indicated.
The base block 6 is provided with a transverse slot 12 and metallic plates .13 are secured to the top of said base block with their edges overhanging the edges of slot 12 thus forming a T-slot in block 6. A supporting block 14 is provided with a T-head 15 adapted to be inserted in T-slot 12 to secure block 14 to base block,6. Block 14 is provided with upstanding ears or lugs 16 be:

Application filed January 22, 1915. Serial No. 3,714.
tween which a, take-up arm 17 is'pivoted, as shown. Take-up arm 17 is provided at its upper end with a cord receiving notch comprising an inner circular portion 18 and outer diverging portions 19, as shown, said notch being provided for the reception of an electric iron-cord 19. -The arm 17 is normally held in upstanding position by means of a spring comprising a central U-shaped portion 20, side coils 21 formedon the limbs thereof and ends 22 inserted in the top of block 14, as shown. A staple 23 is driven into the arm 17 over the bight of spring portion 20 so as to efiect a slidable connec-- tion between the spring and arm 17. The arrangement is such that the arm 17 will be normally held in an upstanding position, as indicated in the drawings, but will readily yield to facilitate manipulations of the iron.
In Fig. 5, we have illustrated a construction in which the base block 6 is permanently secured to the ironing board 8 by means of screws 24, which construction may be employed as a substitute for the wedge locking device set forth above.
While we have illustrated and described the preferred forms of construction for carrying our invention into effect, these are-ca pable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. We, therefore, do not wish to belimited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail ourselves of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is.
1. The combination with an ironing board, of a base block adapted to be secured thereto, said block being provided with a. T-slot; a supporting block provided with a T-head engaging said slot; and an upstanding spring-held arm pivoted to said supporting block, substantially as described.
2. The combination with an ironing board, of a base block adapted to be secured thereto, .said block being provided with a T-slot; a supporting block provided with a T-head engaging said slot; and an upstanding spring-held arm pivoted to said supporting block and provided at its free end with a notch for the reception of an electric iron cord, substantially as described.
3. The combination with an ironing board, of a base block, said block being providedwith a T-slot; a supporting block provided with a T-head engaging said' slot; an upstanding sp-ring-held arm pivoted to said sup-porting block; a hanger depending from said base block; an inwardly off-set wedge abutment on said hanger; and a wedge adapted to cooperate with said abutment to secure said base block to the ironing board, substantially as described.
4. The combination with an ironing board, of a base block, said block being provided with a T-slot; a supporting blockp-rovided with a T-head engaging said slot; an upstanding spring-held arm pivoted to said supporting block and provided at its free end with a notch for the reception of an electric iron cord; a hanger depending from said base block; an inwardly ofl'-set wedge abutment on said hanger; and a wedge adapted to cooperate with said abutment to secure said base block to the ironing board, substantially as described.
5. As a detachable fastening for. electric iron take-ups, a base block; a depending hanger on said block; an inwardly off-set wedge abutment on said hanger; a wedge cooperating with said abutment to secure said block to an ironing board; and a takeup arm mounted on said block, substantially as described.
