F- HARLAND. NARROW ATTACHMENT. APPLICATION FILED 02cm. ms.

FRANK HABLAND, 0F DRAKE, NORTH DAKOTA.
HARE-OW ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 24, 1916.
Application filed December 31. 1915. Serial No. 69,603.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, FRANK HARLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Drake, in the county of McHenry and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harrow Attachments, of which the followingis a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to burrow attachments and has for its object the production of a simple and etlicient means whereby a detachable rim is provided for converting a harrow disk into a soil packer.
Another object of this invention is the production of a simple and eflicient means for attaching and holding the soil packer upon the burrow disk.
With these and other objects in view this invention-consists of certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawingsz-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a harrow disk showing the packer attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the barrow disk showing the packer applied thereto. Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3-3. of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an edge view of the hinged edge of the packer. Fig. 5 is a fragmentary detailed perspective, partlv in section, of the means for facilitating the connection of the free ends of the packer together. Fig. 0 is a detail perspective partly in section showing the hinged connection for the packer. Fig. 7 is an edge view of the front edge of a portion of the packer, showing the manner of connecting the free ends thereof.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that 1 designates a harrow disk which is SUPPOltQtl in the usual manner upon a harrow or other support and a packer '2 is mounted upon the periphery of the harrow disk 1. This packer is provided with a rounded outer periphery 3 having an inwardly extending right angularly formed flange l adapted to engage the inner face of the harrow disk 1 as indicated in Fig. 3. A tapering flange 5 is formed upon the Copter of thin patent may be opposite side of the packer '2 with respect to the flange 4 and is adapted to conform upon its inner face 6 with the contour of the face 7 of the harrow disk 1. The packer 2 comprises a pair of sections which sections are hinged together by having the inwardly projecting ear 8 pivotally connected by means of a pin 9 between the ears it) of the adjacent section. Each section of the packer 2 is provided with an inwardly extending web 11, each web being provided with a right angularly extending flange 1; through which flanges is adapted to pass a connecting bolt 13, which bolt passes through apertures 14 formed in the flanges l2 and firmly holds the several sections snugly over the periphery of the burrow disk 1.
It will be seen by considering Fig. 7, that the free ends of the packer-sections overlap and thereby form an etlicient means for resisting lateral strain.
\Vhat is claimed, is v As a new article of manufacture, a detachable packing band adapted to fit over the periphery of a harrow disk, said band comprising a pair of sections, said sections being substantially V-shaped in cross-section and provided with a substantiallv V- shaped -notch upon the inner periphery thereof for snugly fitting over the outer periphery of a harrow disk, one end of one section provided with a reduced and rounded projecting tongue, the adjoining end of the opposite section provided with a notch formed therein. said tongue of one section being fitted in the notch of the adjoining section, a pivot pin passing through said tongue and also passing through the adjoining section for pivotally connecting said sections together, each section provided with an inwardly extending substantiallv V- shaped rib, a laterally extending flange carried by each rib, and a bolt passing through the opposite flanges of the abutting sections for firmly holding the sections in engage ment around a harrow disk.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
FRANK HARLAND.
