- To all whom t may concern: I
Be it known that we; lGrenen 4AnnexeNenn BURROUoHs, 'WILLIAM GRANT, and AN 'r1-tour PETER KUToHAw,"subjects of the King of lfnrreat Britain," and residents of Sudbury, in
4the Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Heaters, of which the following is the specification. l Y This invention relates .to improvements 1n electric water heatersA and the objects of the `inventionare to provide a simple and efective water heater in which the `water will be readilyandquickly heated'.
A. further object is to 'construct a heater which will remain vhot 'for a` considerable ltime after the current -hasv been turnedo'y on the heating element.'
With the; -above and other objects in vview the invention consists essentially of the i1n' proved construction particularly described and set forth in the :following speciication and accompanying drawing.
In the drawing, Figure l is a longitudinal sectional elevation'of 'the' improved heater. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the improved heatertaken midway up of Fig. 1.
' responding v Like characters parts in all the figures.
Referring` to the drawing, A represents the improved heater comprising `the heating` elementv 10 about which the Water coil 11 is located, the said coil and 'heating 'element being housed in the water jacket 12 which is substantially cylindrical in cross section and terminates in a conically shaped head in the upper end. i
The-coil 11 communicates with the water jacket 12 through the medium of the outlet while the heated Water is discharged from the said jacket through the pipe 14. The several elements enumerated consisting of the jacket are housed in a vacuum jacket 15 having a substantially conical upper end through which the discharge pipe 1t passes.
Athrough the. lnlet `jackexat2.' The lower understood from the of reference indicate corheating element, the coil and water lh old .water lis-delii/ered to tile coil pipe l16 which passes through the vacuum jacket l5 and the water fitted with a removable cover 17 having an asbestos' lining 18 which serves as a heat insulating able source is supplied to the heating element throughA the wires 19 and 2).
The assembly of the heater will'be readily foregoing descripticnn In using a heater ofths description it isonly necessary to turn on a supply ci ceid Water which passing through the inlet V1t delivered to the coil 11, Where coming under the'intluenceof the heating element 10 it ia' i quicklybrought to the desired temperature yand delivered through the discharge 13 into the Water jacket 12 from whence it ered throughthe discharge pipe 14e.
The 'water-'jacket 12 performs a dual func tion in that besides subjecting a large vol ume of water to the inliue'nce of lng element it prevents the inner face et the vacuum jacket l5 being unduly heated and liable to burn. I
` From the above it will be seen that the device is completely constructed and that the heat generatedfrom the. electric heating element 10 will electively heat the water coil 1l as the heat vis confined within the vacuum jacket 15 and hence is insulated from the ele terior atmosphere. Further, after the current has been turned on for some time and the water heatedv the current may be switched von and the .water in the coil will remain hot for at least twenty-tour hoursa due to its being completely insulated by the vacuum. jacket.
What we claim as our invention is;
A Water heater comprising a coil heater aving its upper convolutions forming a substantial cone land its discharge pipe town ing the apen of the cone, a water jacket sur rounding .the coil provloled with a conical end of the heater is means and prevents radiation te the said cover, while current from any suit the heat 'ratentee oet. saisie..
