RAZOR-BLADE SHARPENER.
Lechner..
' Application led February 7, 1916. Serial No. 76,684.
To all whom it may concern Be it known Athat I, LAWRENCE M. PINCE- NEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Charleston, in the county of Charleston and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Razor-Blade Sharpeners; and I' do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of tie invention, such as will enable others Skill ed in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to improvements in rai/.or blade Sharpeners in which rotating stroppers are provided to engage with opposite sides of each cutting edge of double-edgedsafety razor blades.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved razor blade Sharpener which will be of simple construction, economical of manufacture, easily operated, and constructed for convenient and quick insertion and removal of the razor blades 'between the rotating stroppers, which are y proved razor blade Sharpener constructed in accordancerwith the present invention and illustrated with the cover raised. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the improved device with the cover removed. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional View taken on the line 3--3rof Fig. 2 and with the cover in place. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2 and with the cover in position. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional view through one of the rollers or stroppers; and Fig. 6 is a perspective View on a reduced scale ofthe casing with the cover removed and before the stroppers have been mounted therein.
Referring more particularly tc the drawings, l designates a casing and a cover therefor disconnected from the casing and Speccation of Letters Patent.

removable therefrom'. I The casing lis pro? .vided with angle posts 3, fitted in the `corners thereof, as indicated plainly -in Figs. 2
and 6; such posts extending to a height 11py -i wardly therefrom substantially equal'fto the depth of the cover 2, which latter receives and is guided by the same when moving position to inclos'e the casing 1.
Along the longitudinal center of the casing 1 is arranged a series of pins 4-recessed and threaded at their bases to receive screws 5 fitted through Ixcountersunk perforatinns in j the base of thecasing l, and whereby the pins 4 are removably mounted therein. These pins may be in` any number and are adapted to receive the perforations formed in razor blades, such as shown at 6 in Fig. 2, of the Gillette and other types; and the razor blade 6 is slidable vertically on said pins 4, being unsupported centrally and having the lower faces of its opposite cutting edges freely resting upon the leather or other abrading surfaces 7 of wooden or` other rollers, or rotating stroppers 8 and 9. See more particularly Fig. 5). These rollers or rotating stroppers 8 and 9 are disposed in' the casing l to either side of the 'series ofv pins 4, they being mounted on square or other shafts 10 and 11 formed, as
c disclosed to advantage in Fig. 5, with round journals 12 and 13, which. may be fitted in pairs of bearings 14 and 15 or directly in the end walls of the casing l, as may be deemed better'in practice. Coperating withA .the rollers or rotating stroppers 8 and 9 of the casing 1, are a similar pair ofstroppers 16 and 17 havingleather or other suitable abrading faces 18 and 19, and being supported to freely revolve in the cover 2 on square or other shafts 20 and 21 formed with round journals litted in spring brackets 22 and 28 extending across the ends ofthe cover 2 and being offset centrally, as may be seen in Fig.
4; they having their ends bent inwardly and perforated, as at 24 and 25 in Fig. 1, to receive fastening means. It will be understood that the stroppers l16 and 17 may. be readily engaged and disengaged with the bearing brackets 22 and 23 by pressing the same inwardly against the respective end Walls of the cover 2.
The several rollers or -rotating stroppers 10, 11, and 16, 17, are connected to be driven seid casing, a, cover sldable on said guide posts, complemental pairs` of 4stroppers in lsaid casing and cover for supporting a razor blade tllerebetween, gear wheels connecting said elements for simultaneous operat1on,'p1ns 1n sald caslng. for centerlng a razor blade thereln, a crank handle on the exterior of said casing, and gear 4connections between said crank handle and thefstroppers in said easing, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I ax my signature.
LAWRENCE M. PINCKNEY.
