AUGUST E. CONRARDY AND CHARLES '.E. WAGNER, 0F CLEVELAND, KANSAS.
ROTATING-BLADE SHARPENER.
Application led January 13, 1915.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that we, AUcUsT E. CON- RARDY and CHARLES H. WAGNER, citizens of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Kingman and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Rotating-Blade Sharpeners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for sharpening the rotating blades of lawn mowers, ensilage cutters and similar machines and the object of the invention is the provision of a simple and efficient device which may be conveniently applied and removed from machines of the aforesaid character and pressed into engagement with the blades as they are reversely rotated.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure l is a side elevation of the device showing in dotted lines the position of the rotating blades and the position of the brace bar upon which the attachment is fulcrumed. Fig. 2 is a top plan view. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, l represents a rectangular frame which is constructed of any suitable material and of the proper dimensions. This frame has one side wall thereof made convex, as shown at 2, and the opposite side wall is provided with set screws 3 for a purpose to be here` inafter described. Extending transversely across the plane and projecting beyond the opposite sides thereof are the handle and stone supporting bars 1.1-, one end of each terminating in a fulcruni hook 5 and the opposite end of each terminating in an operating handle 6. These members 4 are preferably adjustably bolted to brackets 7 secured to the side members of the frame 1 Specification of Letters Patent.

and hold in between them a grinding stone S whose side edges are concaved, as at 9, to receive the convex wall 2 and be engaged by the clamping strip l0 also provided with a convex side arranged between the stone and set screws 3. When the stone is placed in position with one concaved side in engagement with the convex wall 2 of the frame and the opposite side engaged by the auxiliary strip 10 held in position by the set screws 3, the upper face of the stone will rest upon the underside of the bars 4 and be firmly clamped within the frame, as will .be readily understood.
In the operation of the device the cutting blades ll are reversely rotated in any suitable manner. The fulcrum hooks are then hooked over the brace bar 12 and the stone pressed into engagement with the cutter. By adjusting the frame upon the bars different grinding surfaces may be presented to the guides so as to produce even wear on the stone.
What is claimed is In a Sharpener for cutting machines having rotating cutters, a frame having a convex inner wall, a stone having concaved side edges, one of which is arranged to engage the convex inner wall of the frame, a convex strip engaging the opposite concaved edge of the stone, set screws carried by the frame for engaging said convex strip, bars extending across the frame and adjustably secured thereto, rod engaging hooks formed at one end of the bars and handles secured to the opposite end.
In testimony whereof we al'iix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
AUGUST E. CONRARDY. CHARLES H. WAGNER.
