GAS-STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept. 19, 1916.
Application filed September 10, 1915. Serial N 0. 49,895.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD G. GERMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and usefulv Improvements in Gas-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to gas stoves and consists in certain improvements in the construction thereof as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
More particularly the invention relates to frontsfor stoves having curved or cylindrically shaped shells providing avportion to carry and deflect thelight, protecting this portion and reflecting the light from the stove in an eflicient manner. 7 v
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings as follows Figure 1 shows a plan view, a part of the top being removed to better show construc tion. Fig. 2 a section on the lines 22 in Figs. 3 and 4:. Fig. 3 a front elevation of the stove. Fig. 4 a section on the lines ll in Figs. 2 and 3. Fig. 5 a front elevation of the front with the transparent closure piece removed.
1 marks thebase of the stove, 2 the cylindrical shell and 3 the top. Stove rods 4; extend from the top through ears 5 in the base. The rods are secured by the nuts 6 at the bottom. Aprotecting plate 7 is supported by rods 4, the nuts 8 being arranged below the plate to secure the plate to the rods. A ring 9 is secured to the center of the top by a screw 10 by means of which the stove may be readily moved. A plate 12 is located adjacent to the top of the stove, this being supported by the hangers 13. The burner 14 extends across the stove.
A section of the cylinder is removed from the front forming an opening 15, this being of less length than the total height of the stove, the front 16 being arranged to close this opening. This front is preferably formed with white enamel forming a brilliant reflecting surface. It has the face 17 which is preferably flat and is within the curve of the shell of the stove. The segment shaped spaces between this face and the shell at the top and bottom are closed by portions 18, the one at the top being slightly inclined upwardly and the one at the bottom slightly inclined downwardly from the face 17. The' front has the flange 19 extending around it having the contour of the shell of the stove and fitson 'thisshell overlapping the opening. The front is preferably secured by screws 20 extending through this flange and the edge of the shell. A vertical slot 21 extends through the face 17 and semi-circular openings 22 are arranged in the top and bottom, the diameter or the chord of these openings being somewhat greater than the slot 21. Y A semi-cylindri-' cal closure piece 23 ispassed through the top opening and dropped down into the bot tom opening, the edges of this closure piece contacting the face 17 at the edges of the vertical; slot and extending into the semi-circular openings at the top and bottom; A lug 24 extends inwardly from the front and supports the closure piece 23. The'segment formed in the top and bottom is sufficient to receive the closure piece so that the closure piece is within the walls of the shell continued as represented by the flange 19. This closure piece is preferaloly'formed of glass with a ground surface and being within the contour of the shell is largely protected against injury. Atthe same time the curved walls of the shell permit of the face 17 ex-; tending outwardly without obstruction to the edge of the stove thus permitting a wide range of reflection from the closure piece and the enamel surfaces of the front. By making the top and bottom walls 18 slightly inclined a more eflicient reflecting surface is provided and the manufacture of the front is simplified whether made of stamped material or castings. The front as a whole lends itself readily to convenient manufacture either by casting or stamping.
What I claim as new is 1. In a stove, the combination of a shell having a front side curved outwardly in cross section and provided with an opening in the curved side between the top and bottom; a front plate extending across said opening and within the curve described by the shell at the top and'bottom of the open ing, said plate being formed with a vertical slot; and a convex closurev for said slot composed of pellucid material and extending outwardly from the face of the front plate, said closure falling within the curve described bythe top and bottom portions of the shell at the ends of the plate.
2. In a stove, the combination of a shell, circular in cross section and provided with an opening between its top and bottom; a front plate eXtending across said opening,

3. In a stove, the combination of a shell having a front side curved outwardly in cross section and provided with an opening in the curved side between its top and bot tom; a front plate extending across said opening and within the curve described by the top and bottom of the shell at the ends of the plate, said plate having a vertical slot; segmentally shaped top and bottom closure pieces between the plate and the shell; and a closure for the slot of pellucid material having a convex outer surface extending from the face of the front plate, said closure falling within the circle described by the top and bottom portions of the shell at the ends of the plate and extending into the segmentally shaped closure plates.
4. In a stove, the combination of a shellhaving a front side curved outwardly in cross section and provided with an opening in the curved side between its top and bottom; a front plate extending across the opening and within the curve described by i the top and bottom of the shell, said plate having a vertical slot; segmentally shaped top and bottom closure plates between the front plate and the shell, said segmentally shaped closure plates having openings extending laterally beyond the edges of the slot; and a semi-cylindrical closure for the slot composed of pellucid material having its edges abutting the plate at the sides of the slot and extending into the openings in the top and bottom segmentally shaped plates.
5. In a stove, the combination of a shell having a front side outwardly curved in cross section and provided with an opening in the curved side between its top and bottom; a front plate extending across the opening and within the curve described by the top and bottom of the shell at the ends of the plate, said plate being formed with a vertical slot; segmentally shaped closure plates, top and bottom, between the front plate and the shell, the bottom closure plate being inclined downwardly from the front plate and the upper segmentally shaped plate being inclined upwardly from the front plate, said closure plates having openings therein; and a closur'efor the slot of pellucid material ext'endinginto the openings in the top and bottom' closure plates and abutting the face of the front at the edges of the slot.
