SPRINKLING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WRIGHT D. Bnnsnn and CHARLES S. JAMns, both residents of Los Angeles, California, have jointly invented a new and useful SprinklingDevice, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates more particularly to lawn sprinklers and the main object thereof is to provide a device that may be easily attached toa hose near the end thereof or at any. point in its length; or if desired a plurality of sprinklers may be used.
Another object is the attainment of an easily adjusted spray regulating means.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated and claimed.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan view of the blank from which the strip is formed; Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the sprinkler and clamping screw in position in the-strip; Fig. 3 is a view showing the strip clamped in position with the sprinkling device ready for use; Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line afi-m of Fig. 3; Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line B -w? of Fig. 3; Fig. 6 isa sectional view of a part of the sprinkling device; Fig. 7 is a view of the regulating valve or spreader; and, Fig. 8 is a view showing the application of a plurality of sprinklers to a piece of hose.
In the drawings, the improved sprinkler device consists of a band 1, made of a single strip of flat, flexible material, such as sheet metal. The strip is flanged adjacent its ends, as indicated at 2, to strengthen the same, and is provided with holes 3,through which a clamping screw 4 passes and is seecured by a nut 4, after the strip has been bent around the hose. The band 1 is also provided with an opening 5, havinginclined inturned edges. In this opening is fastened, as by soldering, the flaring end 6 of a valve cage or thimble 6 which, when the parts are in position, extends radially inward, as clearly shown in the drawing. The
said thimble has a threaded opening 7 in its bottom into which is secured the shank of a spreader valve 8. The thimble is also provided with openings 9, through which water from the hose can escape.
The spreader or valve is formed with a conical head 10, conforming to the shape of.
the flaring opening 6*, so that such head will snugly seatagainst the opening. By
unscrewing the spreader, the opening between the conical head and seat may be adjusted as required, and the flow of water regulated accordingly. The head 10 of the spreader 8 is preferably provided with asuitable opening in a hose, such as 12, at
any desired point, the valve cage may be inserted in such opening and the band or strip clamped aroundthe hose. The water will then escape in the form of a circular" spray through the opening 14 between the spreader head 10 and the valve seat 6, and as above described, such opening may be regulated as desired.
As shown in Fig. 8, a number of these sprinkling devices may be inserted at different points throughout the length of a piece of hose, and thus the water conveniently and uniformly distributed over the are a to be sprinkled.

1. A sprinkler comprising a flexible strip adapted to encircle a hose, an adjustable valve carried by said strip, and means for clamping said strip around a hose with the valve projecting radially inside of the hose.
2. A sprinkler comprising a flexible strip adapted to be bent around a hose, a valve cage carried by said. strip, a valve in said cage, and means for clamping said strip around a hose with said cage wholly inclosed within the hose.
3. A sprinkler comprising a strip or band, Signed at Los Angeles, California, Janua valve cage carried thereby and provided ary, 1916.
