ADJUSTABLE I-IAME AND TRACE CONNECTION.
Specification of Letters Patent.
1,198,864. Patented Sept. 19, 1916.
Application filed April 10, 1916. Serial No. 90,119.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WVILLIAM IVIORGAN, a citizen of the Dominion of Canada, and a resident of Havre, in the county of Hill and State of Montana, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Adjustable Hame and Trace Connections, of which the following is a specification.-
My present invention relates generally to hame and trace connections, and more particularly to an adjustable hame and trace connection of that type known as bolt connector, in which the trace attaching member is pivotally mounted upon a bolt extending longitudinally of, and connected to, the hame in spaced relation thereto.
The object of my invention is to provide for'simple instantaneous adjustment of the trace attaching member with respect to the hame bolt, and its movable support in selected adjustment to regulate the point of It is obvious from the foregoing that I draft and thus obviate angular strains upon provide an adjustable hame and trace conthe hame likely to cause sore necks and sore nection of what is known as the bolt type, shoulders in its use. having all of the natural strength and flexi- In the accompanying drawing illustrating}, bility incident to the usual connection of the preferred form of my invention-Figure, this type, and having in addition thereto 1 is a perspective view of a hame provide strong, durable, and effective means whereby with my improvements. Fig. 2 is a sidejppt may be movably held in selected vertical view of a. portion thereof. Fig. 3 is a cross section taken substantially on line 33 Ofiigiwltll respect to the hame.
and extending for substantially the full length of the said bolt, the said locking plate being provided with a plurality of transverse grooves 18 for the reception of the ribs 16 of the arms 15 before mentioned. By reference to Fig. 3 it will be noted that, with the trace attaching member in its operative position, the ribs 16 are in engagement with corresponding grooves 18, and by a comparison of this figure with Fig. i, it will be noted that, in order to adjust the trace attaching member, it is simply necessary to rotate the same upon the bolt 10 until the ribs 16 are out of the grooves, the trace attaching member being then movable longitudinally of the bolt 10 to selected vertical adjustment, and will be movably held in such adjustment when the trace attaching member is again swung to the operative position as shown in Fig. 3.
rposition to secure the desired line of draft Fig. 1, with the trace connector in opera-[5i I claim tive position. Fig. i is a view similar tot? A hame and trace connection of the char- Fig. 3 illustrating the trace attaching mem-tg fjacter described, including a hame having a ber turned to position permitting of its ver spaced parallel hame bolt and a plurality tical adjustment upon the hame bolt; of eye bolts outstanding from the hame and Referring now to these figures, I have in which said hame bolt is secured, one of shown in Fig. 1 a hame bolt 10 rigidly se-i said eye bolts being located centrally of the cured in spaced substantially parallel relahame bolt, a trace attaching member includtion tot-he outer edge of the hame 11 by ing upper and lower spaced arms pivoted at means of attaching eyes 12 rigid with the one end upon said hame bolt at opposite hame. the trace attaching member, which sides of said central eye bolt and movable with the bolt 10 forms the hame and trace lengthwise of the hame bolt, and a locking connection, consisting of the usual bolt 13 plate rigid with the hame adjacent to and with its sleeves lat, which pass through the parallel with the hame bolt thereof and protug loop, and having upper and lower arms vided with a plurality of transverse grooves 15 through the outer ends of which the bolt extending the full width thereof, said arms 13 passes, the inner ends of these arms 15 of the trace attaching member having ribs being loosely pivotally disposed upon the at one side of their pivoted ends to enter hame bolt 1.0 and being, in accordance with said grooves of the locking plate and movmy invention, pro-vided at one side with ably hold the trace attaching member in laterally projecting ribs 16 as best seen in adjusted position on the hame bolt. Figs. 3 and 1. Also, in accordance with my WVILLIAM MORGAN. invention, I provide the outer edge of the hame 11 with a locking plate 17 secured in the space between the same and the bolt 10 Witnesses:
