Q vihmaow OTMAR 'J. FELTZ,. OF VINCENNES, INDIANA.
SUPPORTER.
Specification of LettersIEatent.
Patented Sept. 19, 1916.
Application filed November 20, 1915. Serial No. 62,610.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTMAR J. FEL'rZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vincennes, in the county of Knox and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in garment supporters and more particularly to. an attachment for connection with a garment for supporting a belt thereon.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of the above stated character adapted for connection with the inner face of the band of a pair of trousers for concealing the device from view and permitting of the belt being utilized as a means for retaining the shirt of the wearer down within the trousers.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a device of the above stated character including a belt carrying member adjustably mounted on the trousers where by the belt may be adjusted up and down in order to fit various heights of trousers at a point above the hips.
WVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features, details of construction, and combination of parts which will hereinafter be more fully set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspec tive view illustrating the application of the device; Fig. 2 is a. perspective view of a belt illustrating the belt engaging members carried thereby and removed from the trousers; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the holder removed from the trousers; Fig. l is a perspective view of the belt carrying member illustrated as applied to the holder; and Fig. 5 is a detail vertical section through the same. Fig. 6 is a transverse section.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, I provide an improved belt supporting and adjusting device which in this particular instance constitutes a holder 5 constructed of a single blank of sheet metal or the like material and comprises a body portion 6 of substantially rectangular configuration and formed on its upper and lower edges with attaching eyes 7 which permits of the supports being attached to the waist band of a garment, in any preferred manner, but for the purpose of illustration I have shown the holders as sewed to the trouser band and disposed in substantially vertical upright position and in spaced relation one to the other The opposite longitudinal edges of the holder are bent inwardly uponitself and in spaced relation thereto to provide the holder with a pair of guide flanges 8. The said holder is disposed throughout its length with a series of serrations 9 forming a rack 10, the purpose of which will be hereinafter fully described.
I provide in connection with a holder of the above stated character, an improved form of belt slide 11 which is constructed of an integral piece of thin sheet metal material and embodies a base plate 12 of substantially rectangular configuration and a belt loop 13, the latter being formed integral with the base plate and disposed in spaced relation therewith to permit of the entrance between the loop and base plate of a belt 14:. As illustrated, the loop extends throughout the entire length of the base plate and .is of a width less than the width of the plate, whereby providing the base plate with oppositely disposed extensions 15, adapted when the belt slide is connected with the holder to engage beneath the guide flanges of the holder and force the projections 16 of the belt slide in contact with the rack 10 of the holder. These projections 16 are struck outwardly from the base portion, disposing the projections in longitudinal alinement one with the other andtransversely of the base plate.
In briefly describing the operation of the device it is to be stated that in the application of the belt to the trousers, the belt slides 11 are slipped upon the belt and the same are then inserted within the respective holders 5 at various heights with respect to the holder, according to the height or length of the trousers positioning the belt at all times at a point above the hips and neatly supporting the trousers around the hips of the wearer. It is to be understood that any number of these belt supporting devices may be employed as the occasion may demand and disposed in spaced concentric series within and around the waist line of a garment; and it is to be further stated that the supports may be attached to skirts, shirtwaists and the like, thereby further serving as a means for retaining a belt Within a skirt for the purpose of holding the shirtwaist down Within the same and preventing any creeping movement thereof.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection With the accompanying drawing the advantages of construction and of the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to Which the invention relates, and While I have described the principles of operation of the device together With the device Which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that 1 the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made When desired as are Within the scope of the claim appended thereto.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents. Washington, D. G.
