Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFlCE.
EDGAR I. PROUTY, OF ALBANY, OREGON.
CALENDAR.
Application filed May 23, 1913, Serial No. 769,490. Renewed October 22, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDGAR I. PROUTY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Albany, in the county of Linn, State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Calendars; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invent-ion is directed to improvements in calendars, and has for its object to construct a device of this character which is exceedingly simple, easy to operate, and one which is perpetual.
WVith this and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front view of the calendar. Fig. 2 is a similar view, the front of the casing being removed. Fig. 3 is a vertical central sectional view of the device. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 44 of Fig.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1. designates a casing, the front of which is provided with rectangular openings 2, 3, and 4, the purpose of which will appear later.
Journaled in the sides 5 of the casing are the ends of the rollers 6, the same being arranged in spaced horizontal alinernent, and adapted to coact with said rollers is a roller 7. Having its ends also journaled in the sides 5, is a roller 8, one end of which is projected through one of the sides 5 and has secured thereto a knurled head 9, by which the roller 8 is rotated. The roller 8 is provided with lugs 10, which engage the apertures 11 formed in the side edges of the endless web 12, said web having printed thereon the months of the year, and as the web is trained around the rollers 6 and 7, and the roller 8 is journaled so as to be positioned slightly below the opening 2, rotation of said roller through the medium of the head 9 will cause the desired month to appear in the opening 2.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented se t. 19, 1916.
Serial No. 57,376.
Journaled in the sides 5 and above the opening 3 is a roller 13 which is in alinement with the similarly mounted roller 14, one end of which projects beyond one of the sides 5, and has splined thereon a gear 15, the purpose of which will appear later. The roller 14 is also provided with lugs 16 which engage the apertures 17 formed in the web 18, said web having printed thereon the days of the week, and as the roller 14 is journaled below the opening 3, the desired day can be positioned in said opening. I J ournaled immediate below the roller 14 1s a roller 19, which is also provided with lugs 20 for engaging the apertures 21 formed in the endless web 22. The web 22 has printed thereon numerals 1 to 31, which designate the days of the month. The web 22 is trained around spaced upper rollers 23 and spaced lower rollers 24 and 25, motion being imparted to said web upon rotation of the knurled head 26, which is fixed to the extended end of the roller 19. Fixed to the extended end of the roller 19 is a gear 27, the same being adapted to mesh with the gear 15, whereby when said gear is rotated rotary movement will be imparted to the roller 14 through the medium of the gear 15, thus simultaneously displaying the day of the week and day of the month at the openings 3 and 4, respectively.
By splining the gear 15 upon the extended end of the roller 14, the same can be removed from meshing relation with the gear 27 so that at the end of each month the day of the week can be displayed at the opening 3 to coincide with the proper day of the month, and further to permit adjust ment of the web 22 in cases of months having less than 31 days.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the operation and advantages of the device will be readily apparent.
What is claimed is A calendar comprising a casing, the front of which is provided with a plurality of openings, rollers journaled in the casing, independent endless webs trained around the rollers, certain of the rollers having their ends projecting from the casing, and one of said rollers carrying means for rotating the simultaneously to display the data thereon same, a gear fixed to one roller, a second gear through said openings. i 10 splined to an adjacent roller and adapted to In testimony whereof, I vaflix my signamesh with the first gear, and to be removed tnre, in the presence of two Witnesses.
from mesh with said gear, said webs having I EDGAR 1. PROUTY. printed thereon the days of the month and Witnesses: the days of the Week, whereby when said NOEL B. MARTIN, rollers are rotated the Webs Will be moved W. R. BILYEU.
