To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, THOMAS C. ARNOLD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fernandina, in the county of Nassau and State of Florida, have inventednew and useful improvements in Light Attachments for Eye Shades or Shields, of'which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to an electric light attachment for eye shades or shields, and more particularly to the class of electric lamp holding brackets for use on eye shades or shields.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a bracket of this character wherein an electric lamp is conveniently held in place upon an eye shield or shade closeto the line of vision when worn so that the user can obtain maximum light at close range without possibility of injury to the eyes while wearing the shade or shield, the
lamp being readily detachable from the bracket when desired.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a bracket of this character wherein the construction thereof is novel in form so that it can be detachably mounted' upon the shade or shield and when thereon will firmly hold an electric lamp for obtaining light while the shade or shield is being Worn or in use.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a bracket of this character which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in its purpose, strong, durable and inexpensive in manufacture.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part hereinafter set forth. The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combination of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings: .Figure 1 is a perspective view of an eye shade or shield upon a user showing the bracket constructed in accordance with the invention applied and supporting a lamp; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the bracket detached from the shield; Fig. 3 is a vertical trans verse sectional view through the eye shield and bracket.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates' an eye shade or shield which is of the ordinary well known construction and shape, excepting that at one end thereof is mounted a tab 5 carrying a buckle 6, while at the opposite end is a strap 7 which is adapted to embrace the head of the wearer and is adjustably engaged in the buckle 6 for the fastening of the shade or shield in position on the forehead of the head of the user, as usual, and on this shade or shield A is mounted the bracket hereinafter fully described. The bracket comprises a single length of relatively stiff wire B bent to form the frame like clamping clip 8 which .embraces the body of the shade or shield A centrally thereof, and this clip 8 is slipped on from the rear concaved edge thereof. The wire 13 is further bent medially on the upper stretch of the clip 8 to form a forwardly inclined leg or support 9 and a resilient clamping yoke 10 adapted to receive an electric lamp bulb socket 11 in which is detachably mounted an electric light bulb 12 receiving its current from the conductor 13 which carries at its opposite end a screw plug 14 for detachable fastening in an electric light fixture of the ordinary well known construction. The wire 13 at one end is formed with a loop 15 which embraces the other end portion 16 of said wire B, which portion 16 is extended rearwardly and terminates in an open eye 17 to receive the conductor 13 and thereby prevent the pulling of the socket 11 from the yoke 10 when a strain is exerted upon the conductor.
Carried by the strap 7 is a loop 18 which holds the conductor in place over the head of the user of the shade or shield, as will be apparent.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
The combination with an eye shade, of a lamp bracket comprising a single length of relatively stifi' wire bent to form a double U-shaped frame providing a clamping clip for detachably embracing the body of the shade the .U-shaped portions of the frame being arranged in close substantially paral- 5 lel relation to each other, said Wire being further bent medially of the uppermost frame portion to provide legs, and a rei iemzv THOMAS C.
