GRADING-MACHINE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RAYMoNnVVA'rERMAN, a citizen of the. United States, resident of Minneapolis, county of Hennepin, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grading-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to improve the device shown and described in Letters Patent of the United States No. 1,060,652, issued to me May 6, 1913.
The invention consists generally in improved means for preventing lateral movement of the scraper and supporting it in proper position when the machine frame is tilted, thereby preventing breakage of the parts and holding the scraper blade'in its proper working position.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a grading machine with my invention applied thereto, Fig. 2 is a rear sectional elevation of a portion of the machine, illustrating the application of my invention, Fig. 3 is a plan View, showing the relative position of the parts.
In the drawing, 2 represents the frame of the machine, having forward and rear carrying wheels 3 and 4. 5 represents a draft bar and 6 a ring attached to the bar by suitable means and to which the scraper blade 7 is connected.
8 is a rock shaft, having preferably arms 9 thereon connected by links 10 with the ring 6. An operating lever 11 is provided for rocking the shaft and raising or lowering the ring and the scraper blade. Mounted on the frame of the machine, adjacent to the rock shaft, is a transverse bar 12 having slides 13 mounted thereon and adapted to move transversely of the machine for a limited distance. The outer ends of these slides are pivotally connected by rods 14: to a stud 15 which projects rearwardly from the middle portion of the ring 6 and above this stud on the cross bar 12 a rocker 16 is centrally pivoted at 17 The ends of this rocker are pivotally connected by rods 18 with the pivots of the rods 14: on the slides 13 and concentric therewith, so that when movement is imparted to the rocker by raising or lowering the scraper and ring, the slides 13' will be correspond ingly moved, either inwardly or outwardly on the bar 12. 11 is moved forward or backward to raise or lower thescrapervblade and the rods and rocker will not only hold the ring and blade against undue lateral movement, but will also allow the parts to adapt themselves for any tilted position of the machine, preventing any bindingor cramping of the connections which might follow where the rods are rigidly attached to the machine frame.
In various ways -.the.details of construcytion herein shown and described may be modified and still be within the scope of my invention.
I claim as my invention:
1. A grading machine comprising a frame having carrying wheels, a scraper blade, a support therefor, slides mounted to move transversely of said frame and pivotally connected with said scra er blade, and means connecting said s ides with one another for simultaneous movement thereof in opposite directions.
2. A grading machine comprising a frame having carrying wheels, a scraper blade and supporting ring therefor, slides movable transversely of said frame, rods pivotally connecting said slides -with said scraper blade, means for raising and lowering said scraper blade and ring, and means connecting said slides with one another for simultaneous movement in opposite directions.
3. A grading machine comprising a frame, a scraper blade carried thereby, means for raising or lowering said scraper blade, a rocker centrally pivoted on said frame, slides pivotally connected with the ends of said rocker respectively, and means pivotally connecting said. slides with said scraper blade.
4:. A grading machine comprising a frame, slides mounted to move laterally thereon, a scraper blade and means for raising and lowering the same, means pivotally connecting said slides with said scraper blade, and means for effecting simultaneous movement of said slides in opposite directions.
5. A grading machine comprising a frame having carrying wheels, a scraper blade supported in said frame and having means for raising and lowering it, rods pivotally connected at one end with said blade and pivotally mounted at their other ends to slide laterally in said frame, and means pivotally connecting the sliding ends of said rods with one another for simultaneous movement of said rods in opposite directions.
6. A grading machine comprising a frame, a scraper blade and mechanism for raising and lowering it, a rocking member, means having bearings on said frame for transverse movement thereof, pivotal connections between said means and said rocker on opposite sides of its pivot and pivotal connection between said means and said scraper blade.
7 A grading machine comprising a frame having carrying wheels, a scraper blade having means for raising and lowering it, means having bearings on said frame for movement transversely thereof and pivotally connecting said blade with said frame, and mechanism for simultaneously moving the 8. A grading machine comprising a wheeled frame, a scraper blade carried thereby, members connected at one end to said blade and having bearings on said frame for movement laterally thereon, and means connecting said members with one another for simultaneous movement in opposite directions.
