- This invention relates to improvements in heat ers or hot-air furnaces; and it consists in an annular cold-air space surrounding the ash-pit, firepot, and combustion-chamber, which is surrounded by another annular space into which the product of combustion is discharged between tubes connecting an upper and a lower section of the cold-air space, and the whole is surrounded by an outer case and comprises an arrangement calculated to be very effective in economizing the heat.

IMPROVEMENT IN HOT-AIR FURNACES Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0.119,554, dated October 3, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH G. BARNES, of Albany, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Heater; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in heat ers or hot-air furnaces; and it consists in an annular cold-air space surrounding the ash-pit, firepot, and combustion-chamber, which is surrounded by another annular space into which the product of combustion is discharged between tubes connecting an upper and a lower section of the cold-air space, and the whole is surrounded by an outer case and comprises an arrangement calculated to be very effective in economizing the heat.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation, and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent The cold-air chamber in sections A and A connected by the tubes F surrounding the fire-pot and chamber D, and either surrounding the ashpit or not, and the said chamber siurounded by the chamber E, and the whole by an outer ease, I, or not, all substantially as specified.
