DISPLAY DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 22, 1916.
Application filed October 25, 1915. Serial No. 57,723.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIEN STRANDERS, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of the borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, city and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Devices, of which the following is a specification.
' The present invention relates to improvements in display devices, and particularly such a device in which a main supporting member will be provided, which will contain appropriate advertising matter descriptive of the goods to be advertised, and in conjunction therewith a graphic representation of the advertised goods in use.
An object of the invention is to provide such an improved device which may be manufactured entirely from cardboard or other suitable material and will present an attractive, realistic and artistic appearance, such as will readily compel the attention of persons to the same.
A further object'is to provide such a device which will be simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture, and which I when not in use may be folded fiat, so as to take up a very small amount of space.
With these and other objects in view, my invention is shown in the accompanving drawings, and will be hereinafter more fully described with reference thereto and finally pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing one embodi -ment of my invention in use; Fig. 2 is a plan view of one part thereof; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the other part thereof; Fig. 4 is a top plan view showing'the same in open or display position; Fig. 5 is a similar view showing the same folded; Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a modified form of construction embodying a different design; Fig. 7 is a plan view of one part thereof; Fig. 8 is a plan view of the other part thereof; Fig. 9 is a top plan View of the same in open position; and Fig. 10 is a top plan view of the same folded.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several figures of the drawings.
The invention comprises in the preferred embodiment thereof illustrated in the draw ings a goods-suggestive symbol card 10 of irregular design having an opening 11 and comprising a rear standard 12 on one side of said opening, a front figure 13 on the other side of said opening and a top figure 11 connected with said standard and with said front figure, and a word card 20 passed through said opening 11 and engaging said symbol card between its standard and front figure. The connection 15 between the front figure 13 and the top figure 14 is preferably a representative feature of the goods-suggestive card. The front figure 13 is preferably connected with the standard 12 by an integral web 16 and in such case the card 20 is provided with a slot 21 which slips over said web. The word card 20 is preferably hinged to the symbol card 10 and in the preferred construction the hinging is effected by a hinging fiap 17 on the standard 12 of the symbol card 10, said flap being cemented to the Word card 20.
In Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive the advertising device is designed to be suggestive of tea and the goods-symbol card shows in its top figure 14 an inclined tea pot in pouring position, in its front figure 13 a tea cup and in its representative feature 15 it indicates a stream of tea from the nozzle of the tea pot to the tea cup.
In the form of embodiment illustrated in Figs. 6 to 10 the advertising device is suggestive of tobacco and includes a goods-sugprovided with a hinged flap 17'. A slot 16 extending from the opening 11 to the lower edge of the card disconnects the standard 12' from the front figure 13. The part 15' between the top figure 14' and the front figure 13 is merely connective. A notch 18 engages the upper edge of the left wing of the word card 20.
The card 20 has a vertical score 22 which permits it to bend centrally of its length and the wings on opposite sides of said score stand at an angle to each other and both project in front of the goods-symbol card as shown in Fig. 9.
In both forms of illustrated embodiments,
of a goods-suggestive symbol; card of irregular design having an opening and comprising a rear standard on one s de of said opening, a front figure on the 0 her side of said opening and a top figure connected with said standard and with said front figure, and
a word card passed through said opening.
and engaging said symbol card between its standard and front figure.
2. A folding advertising device consisting I of a goods-suggestive symbol card of irregu- 1ar design having an opening and comprising a rear standard. on one side of said opening, a front figure on the other side of said opening, a top figure connected with said standard and a representative feature connecting said top figure with? said front figure, and a word card passed through said opening and engaging said symbol card between its standard and front fi ure.
3. A folding advertising device consisting of a goods-suggestive symbol card of irregular\design having an opening and comprising a rear standard on one side of said opening, a front figure on the other side of said opening, an integral web connecting said front figure with the top of said standard and an integral web connecting said front figure with the bottom of said standard, and a word card passed through said opening and engaging said symbol card between .its standard and front figure.
4. A folding advertising device consisting of a goods-suggestive symbol card of irregular design having an opening and comprising a rear standard on one side of said opening, a front figure on the other side of said opening and a top figure connected with saidstandard and with said front figure, and
.a word card passed through said opening and hinged to said standar 5. A folding advertising device consisting of a goods-suggestive symbol card of irregular design having an opening and comprising a rear standard on one side of said opening, a front figure on the other side of said opening, an integral web connecting said front figure with the top of said standard and an integral web connecting said front figure with the bottom of said stand ard, and a word card passed through said opening and provided with a slot engaged by said last named web.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' JULIEN STRANDERS.
