Description

A. FALK. DISPENSING PACKAGE 0R RECEPTACLE.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. II. I916- Patented Aug. 15, 1916.
ARTHUR FALK, OF NEW YORK,
N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO FALK TOBACCO 00., OF NEW YORK,
N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
DISPENSING PACKAGE OR RECEPTACLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 15, 1916.
Application filed March 11, 1916. Serial No. 83,503.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR FALK, a c1t1- zen of the United States, residing (t New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dispensing Packages or Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the subject of receptacles or packages, and has specially in view simple and practical means whereby the removal of the contents of the receptacle or packages is facilitated and eX- pedited.
The invention is of special utility in connection with receptacles or packages for containing granular goods, such as smoking tobacco, and provides effective means whereby a portion of the lining of the receptacle or package may be readily converted into an ejector for projecting the contents in position to facilitate the discharge of said contents, or a portion thereof, from the receptacle.
One practical form of the invention has been shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein p Figure 1 is a perspective view of a tobacco receptacle equipped with my improved ejector. Fig. 2 is a similar view of my improved combined lining and ejector. Fig. 3 is a diagrammatic view of the lining before being folded.
The invention may be used in connection with various types of receptacles and pack ages, the example shown being a well known form of tobacco box 1, in which the lining 2 is usually of paraflined paper. The lining 2, as is usual, is folded to correspond with the contents of the interior of the box 1.
My invention, as is shown in Figs. 2 and 8 of the drawing, contemplates weakening portions of the lining 2 by scorings, perforations or the like by the spaced parallel lines 3; the convergent lines 1 and the outwardly curved lines 5. The weakening lines are disposed as follows: Parallel lines 3 extend from one side of the lining 2 and transversely across the bottom thereof to the opposite side of the lining; convergent lines t extend up the said opposite side of the lining and serve to connect the parallel lines 3 with the curved lines 5, and the said curved lines 5 extend from lines 4: to the upper edge of the lining. With the arrangement of lines as described, it will. be observed that when the lining is folded to the position shown in Fig. 2 of the accompanying drawings, lines 3 are disposed on one side of the lining and across the bottom thereof; and lines 1 and 5 are disposed on the opposite side of the lining, so that when the lining is separated on the said lines 3, 4 and 5, an ejecting device is formed that includes a finger grip 6, a pull strip 7 and an ejector S.
In the practical application of the inven tion, the lining 2 is first weakened by means of the lines 3, i and 5, then folded and placed within the receptacle 1 in the usual manner, and the receptacle then filled as usual. In removing tobacco and the like I from receptacles, after the upper portion of the goods have been removed, further removal of the goods is often diflicult. The present invention overcomes this difficulty in that by the use of my lining, a pull toward the center of the receptacle will cause the finger-grip 6, pull strip 7, and ejector to separate from the lining sufficiently to permit such parts to be lifted relatively to the lining and thereby elevate the contents of the receptacle to permit such to be readily poured from the receptacle.
\Vhile in the foregoing particular stress has been laid on the arrangement of weakening lines in the lining, it is to be understood that my invention contemplates any and all variations thereof by means of which a combined lining and ejector is provided.
I claim as my invention:
1. A lining for packages or receptacles having weakened portions adapted to be separated therefrom to form an ejector.
2. A lining for packages or receptacles having weakening lines arranged to permit. portions to be separated from the lining to form an ejecting device including a fingergrip, a pull strip and an ejector.
3. A lining for packages or receptacles having weakening lines partially surrounding an integral portion thereof said portion being adapted to be separated from the lining on the said lines to form an ejector for elevating the contents of packages and receptacles.
1. A lining for packages or receptacles,
having separable portions adapted to form an ejector for elevating the contents packages or receptacles.
of the package, said lining having one si bottom, and a portion of the opposi provided with weakening lines to portions of the lining to be separated de its to side permit therefrom on said lines to form an ejecting de- 10 vice including a finger-grip, a full strip, and an ejector. In testimony whereof I have mixed my signature in the presence of tWo Witnesses.

VVALTER M. CASEY, ELMER SLIPNER.
