To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that LLAURITZ W i a citizen of the United States, residing at Vaterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Socket-Shell, of which the following is a specification. i

This invention relates generally to socket shells for covering the porcelain portion of an incandescent lamp socket, and the 0b1ect of the invention is to provide a simple and safe means for connecting the cap and body portions of the said socket shell.

Another object of the invention is to pro-' vide a socket shell of such construction that it can be used for either key, keyless, pull chain, or push button sockets and switches, and a still further object is to provide a socket shell in which the parts can be quickly and easily assembled without the aid of skilled labor.

\Vith these objects in view my invention consists in constructing asocket shell of three parts, namely, acap threaded at its lower end, a body portion adapted to telescope into the said cap portion, and a ring carried by said body portion and adapted to engage the lower end of the cap and securely hold the body portion against longitudinal movement. I

The invention consists also in certain details of construction hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1, is a perspective View partly in section showing a socket shell constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2, is a. sectional view of the cap, Fig. 3, is a sectional view of the collar, or ring, and Fig. l, is a sectional view of the body por tion or bottom of shell.

In the practical embodiment of my invention I employ a cap A, which has the usual bushim at the top and is made very much the same as cap portions now in use except that this cap A has a slightly longer skirt portion which is reduced and threaded at its lower end as shown at A, and providing a perceptible shoulder A The body portion B is formed with the usual bead B at thie'lower end thereof, and the upper end of the body portion is fitted up into the cap as most clearly shown in Fig. 1, and for the purpose of securing the cap Specification of Letters Patent.

portion and body portion together, I employ a collar C, which is arranged upon the body portion above the head 13 and below a smaller bead B the longitudinal movement of this collar being limited by the bead B at the top, and by the bead B at the bottom, but it will be understood that the collar turns freely upon the said body portion. The lower end of the collar is beaded and milled as shown at C and its upper end is threaded as shown at C and this collar is formed with an internal shoulder C which engages the bead B and thereby prevents the collar and body portion from being disconnected.

When the upper portion of the body B is telescoped nto the cap the collar C is seem-.ly connected to the lower end of the cap by screwing the threaded portions together, and inasmuch as the collar contacts with the intermediate bead of the body portion it willsecurely hold the body portion against longitudinal movement. When the upper edge of the collar contacts with the shouldered portion A of the cap further rotation will be stopped, and the parts will be securely connected together and it will be understood that the operation of connecting these parts can be quickly and easily accomplished without use of skilled labor. It will also be understood that the several parts of the socket shell can be varied slightly in regard to details of construction, so long as such variations fall within the scope of the appended claims.

1. A socket shell comprising a cap having a skirt, a cylindrical body portion having a bead intermediate its ends, and also a bead adjacent its lower end, and a collar arranged upon the body portion between said beads,
