Description

M. THOMSEN.
FAUCET SPRAY ATTACHMENT.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 19.1914.

fee
It 'IHOMSIEN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
. raucn'r sr ATTACHMENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAX 'IHoMsEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Faucet .Spray Attachments; and I do hereby declare that the followingis afull, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompan ing drawings, and to the numerals of re erence marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a device which may be inserted over thedischarge spout of an ordinary faucet to be held frictionally and sealingly thereon, permitting either a concentrated continuous stream to flow therethrough, or a spray through a number of apertures provided for the purpose.
Thisinvention is particularly well adapted for use on faucets in the kitchen, whereby the operation of washing'dishes in a pan beneath the faucet may be greatly facilitated, owing to the fact that when it is desired, the dishes may be sprayed and easily cleaned of the soapy water: g
It is an object of this invention to construct a device consisting of few-parts and simple in operation, whereby either a continuous concentrated stream or a spray may be obtained from a faucet, as desired.
The invention (in apreferred form) is illustrated in the: drawings and hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a conventional side elevation of a faucet, illustrating a device embodying the principles of my invention connected thereto and shown in sec tion. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of a device with the closure shown in open position in dotted lines.
' As shown in the drawings: The faucet is indicated as a whole by. the reference numeral 1, and is provided, as usual, With a handle 2,-and a discharge spout 3. Engaged on the end of the discharge spout 3, is a device comprising a cylindrical casing I, having an'upstanding flange 5, integral therewith, within whichis inserted a washer 6, thelower end of which rests upon an inwardly directed. flange or lip 7, formed integral with said casing. A partition 8, extends across the interior of said casing 4:, and is provided with a plurality of apertures 9, spaced therearound in any conven Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 19, 191a. Serial No. 825,788.
ient manner, and of the same or difi'erent sizes, as desired, dependent upon the particular type of spray desired. Said partition 3, is provided with a large aperture 10, in alinement with the passage through said flanged portions 5 and 7, so that when said aperture 10, is. open the concentrated stream of Water from the spout 3, of the faucet will pass directly therethrough inan uninterrupted manner. For the purpose of obtainmg a spray, a closure is provided for said enlarged aperture 10, which may be mounted in any suitable way. In the construction I have shown a circular head 11, which may or may not have apertures therein, as desired, although I have shown it provided wlth apertures, said head being pivotally held on the under side of said partition by means of a pivot pin 12. An offset and somewhat resilient arm 13, is formed integral with .said head 11, and extends outwardly on the opposite side of said pivot pin 12, the ofi'set portion in said arm adapting the same to extend down and around the lower edge of the cylindrical-casing into a convenient position for actuation. It is obvious from the position of the pivot pin 12,
that the offset portion in said arm 13, only engages the casing when the device is in closed positlon, as shown in Fig. 2,, and
owing to the resiliency of the arm and somewhat .close frictional engagement with the partition 8, the closure of the device. remains in anydeslred adjusted position. A small said partition 8, to limit the movement of said closure head 11, as the same swings into stop 14;, is secured in the under surface of a range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limitin the patent granted otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
. I claim as my invention:
The combination with a faucet, of a spraying device releasably attached thereon em-c bracingvan apertured spray partition therein, an enlarged aperture therethrough in alinement with the spout of the faucet to permit an uninterrupted stream from' the faucet to pass therethrough, and a resilient bar closure pivotally mounted on the under surface of said partition and extending beyond the outer edge of said device to close 10 said enlarged aperture and frictionally en gaging the partition to hold said bar closure in any position of adjustment.
In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MAX THOMSEN.
