IMPROVEMENT IN WAGON-TONGUE SUPPORTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,297, dated September 26, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES J. BAEoocK, of Rives Junction, in the county of Jackson and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wagon-Tongue Supporters; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being-had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and being a part of this specilication, in Which- Figure l is a side elevation of my device as applied to a Wagon-tongue. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the same inverted, and Fig. 3 is a plan of the device.

This invention relates to an improved device for supporting the pole or tongue of a Wagon to of the plate D by the bolt and nut a, the ninnber of leaves in the spring being determined by the Weight ofthe tongue. Near the rear end oi the leaf D a slot, b, is formed therein, and it is secured to the under face of the frontend of the hounds A by a couple of bolts and nuts, c, in such a manner that it may be extended or shortened, as circumstances require. E is a plate Vhinged to the front end of the spring-plate D,
and is secured to the under side of the Wagontongue F by a couple of bolts, d. By extending the tongue-spring D the tongue is supported at a higher point, and vice versa, which point should be high enough to take the Weight of the tongue Afrom the horses necks and transfer it to the supporting-spring, the operation of which is fully shown in the accompanying igures.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The construction and arrangement of the metallic hounds A, eyebolts C, leaf-spring D adjustably secured to theihounds by the bolts c passing through its slot b, and the hinged plate E With relation to the fore axle B and tongue F, as and for the purpose set forth.
