Description

APPLICAT R.I5,I916- I 1,192,877. Patented Aug. 1,1916.
JOHN R. EI-ILINGER, or smrA MINNESOTA; 1
SCRAPER.
Application filed April 15, 1916.. Serial No. 91,335. i
, To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN R. EHLrNoER, residing at 203 Main street, St. Paul, 1n the State of Minnesota, have invented certain 4 new and useful Improvements in Scrapers,
of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to window scrapers and more particularly toy that class of scrap v ers used to remove posters and paints from windows and the like.
The object of the invention is to provide an economical blade holder which will re- 'm0vably but securely hold the scrapin blade.
Other and further objects will be apparent" as the description is proceeded with.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation view of my improved device; Fig. 2 is a longltudlnal sectlonal View;
Fig. 3 is" a side elevation view of the blade holder with blade removed, showing the handle partly broken away and Fig. 4 is aplan view of the blank from which the blade holder is made.
Referring more particularly to the draw-- ings in which like reference numerals'designate corresponding parts throughout the sev.
eral views, numeral 5 designates my im-' proved scraper comprising a handle, blade holder and removable scraping'blade G, 7 T
gular piece or sheet of tin or the like 9, which is then folded intermediate its ends to form substantially parallel side members or walls' 10 and 11 adapted to receive and resiliently grip therebetween the blade 8.
()ne of the side members or walls (in this instance the member 13) is slit transversely as at 14 to form a tang 15 adapted to fit snugly within the slot '11, the other side member bearing an extension or tongue 16 bent across one end of the holder and then inwardly parallel with the side member 13 to form a stop to limit the longitudinal movement of the blade in one direction and to also prevent the spreading of the walls.
While I have described my invention as being particularly adapted for use in removing posters or paint'from windows I do not wish to restrict the invention to this use as it is obvious that the same may be employed to advantagein scraping flat irons, pots, kettles and the like. r
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently Widely different embodiments of my invention, Within the scope of the claims constructed without departure from the, spirit or scope'thereof, it is intended that'all matter contained in the accompanying specification and drawings shall beinterpreted as illustrative and not in a limitingsense.
' Having thus described myinvention, what Iclaim is; Y I
the liketthe combination .with a recessed handle, of a blade holder formed from a single sheet of'material, saidbla-de holder comprising substantially parallel, side walls adapted to grip therebe'tween a scraping blade, one of said walls being slit to form a tang adapted to fit in said recessed handle,
the other of said walls having atongue extending across one end of the. holder and inwardly contiguous to and parallel with the first mentioned wall.
2. In a device of the character described a blade holder and handle therefor, said blade holder comprising substantially parallel spaced, side walls adapted to receive therebetween a scraping blade, a tang cut from one of said side walls and a tongue formed on the other of said walls adapted to 1. In a devicefor'scraping windows and" limit the longitudinal movement of the scraping blade and to prevent the spreading of said walls.
3. In a device of the kind described a blade holder and handle therefor, said blade holder comprising substantially parallel walls adapted to grip therebetween a scraping blade, an integral tang cut from one of said walls and means formed on the other of said walls for limiting the longitudinal movement of the blade and adapted to pregvent spreading of the walls.
In testimony' whereof I atfix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
Vitnesses:
GroF. SULLIVAN, C. H. CASEY.
JOHN R. EHLINGER.
